I have not posted for several months due to tragic events in my family. However, I realize now that I must find activities for my 12 year old daughter and me. I previously fished Lake Conroe several times monthly. However, I will now be fishing Lake Brownwood in central Texas. I jug fish and rod and reel fish for catfish and I have had lots of luck. However, Lake Brownwood will be a new lake for me. I would greatly appreciate any advice on jug fishing and rod and reel fishing for catfish on this lake. Tks

Hey divingcat, give me a call and I will help you out anyway I can. I was guided by Brother Terry back in May of this year and took what he taught me and ran with it. I have honed my skills pretty good on this lake and catch a bunch of cats on it. My # is 325-646-2625. If you get an answering machine, just leave a message and I will give you a call back. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Charles

Lake Brownwood holds some of my favorite childhood memories. I spent the entire summer there with my Mom, Dad and big Sister the summer of 1985. I was only a kid back then but, I remember fishing off the dock at our house and catching catfish, bass, gar, and all other sorts of fish. Dad died that following November, so I'm going to pray that ya'll find the peace your searching for on Lake Brownwood.

Not too far from there is Ft Phantom which has a TON of blues and channels. All of my personal bests have come from that lake. Power plant lake so winters are great!!!

Tks Payne, I just looked up a map of Ft Phantom and man, it does look like a great lake, especially in winter for catfish. You're right also, it is just north of Abilene. I will actually be located in the countryside around May Texas. I know that Lake Proctor is a well known largemouth and crappie lake, but thanks Johnnyt for mentioning it. Looks like I will have several lakes close by to choose from, tks again.

Hey divingcat, call me again because my wife erased the message before I got to write down your phone #. She also erased your # off the caller id. I told her not to but you know how that goes haha. Give me a call back and I will help you out. Talk to you later - Charles

Heycods, you mean it has been shut down or has the water level dropped to where you can't fish it?
Charles, I will call you again on Monday. Really want to speak with you.

Dang Heycods, that is too bad. That lake was in operation since the 1930's. Is this progress? If so, I like progress less and less the older I get.

I fish phantom alot, mostly for whites and hybrids. Bunch of cats in there. I like Brownwood more because it looks and seems much nicer. Lake Coleman is also close and that is a great catfish/Hybrid lake... My local favorite.

Tks guys, I also found out that Phantom was stocked with 64000 fingerling hybrid stripers ( I think that is what they call a palmetto bass) this year. snmcc, I agree that Lake Brownwood is a beautiful lake but I still need to make some calls to you fellas for more information. Maybe hurricane Ike will turn toward central Texas and bring some rain to lots of areas that are in need.
