I bought my fish finder a while back. its just a plain black and white lowrance with no GPS or anything. It works but after reading Tiny's post I gotta get a better one. I've actually been wanting one for a while but now I need one!
By the way, thanks for all your help tiny. I was the guy who started that post about winter fishing. It sucks that one dude got your message deleted. I didn't even get to read it after I asked about finding the shad cuz I was gone all day.

My buddy has the Lowrance 522 color combo and you can spot a big cat under the boat with no problem. The GPS is great also and you can use the dual screen mode to help navigate at night and see what's below at the same time. Definitely worth the money.

I HAVE THE LOWRANCE 522I AND I'M VERY IMPRESSED WITH IT'S FEATURES. THE DUAL MODE IS AWESOME AND IT IS BRIGHT ENOUGH THAT YOU CAN SEE IT IN BRIGHT DAYLIGHT.

you're more than welcome fish ninja ... I should be getting a commission from lowrance, huh?
the 522 is the same as the one I had which was the 334, I think they only changed the numbers hahaha or made it use the external antenae. same price though....the split screen setting was my favorite setting also so I could see the navigation stuff and fish finder at the same time. what was great for me though is oklahoma had a lot of free maps on lowrance's site ... most all the major lakes except for a few were on the enhanced lake maps page for free download ... ain't like that for a lot of other states as I looked for the enhanced maps for texas when I was going to the tournaments and they wasn't on there so I had to buy the $150 navionics chip ... I shoulda went with the fishing hotspots maps though. I heard they were a lot better than navionics hotmaps.
anyhow, ya can't go wrong getting a 520 series lowrance whether it's the 520 or 522 or 523, 525, 528, 528a and so on ... they're great units ... I think all those different numbers don't really mean anything ... gotta be a marketting gimick to make folks think ... shoot far.... I shoulda waited and got a 527 cause it's a higher number than my 522 so now the 522 owner is a slight bit put out by not owning a 527 when it probably doesn't do anything any different than the 522 ... might just mean that one is a deep sea model rather than just a freshwater model cause the dual frequency transducer is what makes them work in the ocean a lot better ...as far as the different numbers of lowrance units I posted above, I doubt half or more of those don't exist cause I've never heard of them ... I've heard of the 520, 522 and I believe the 527 which all have differences that I don't know what is.. I think the 520 has the internal antenae ... I think the 522 has external antanae and the 527 has external antenae with the 50/200 skimmer transducer. but it's been a while since I was reading up on them.
might wonder what I'm doing up at this hour but it was cause I had a weird dream I won't get into cause it was about as convoluted as that post above that I wrote on the different models hahaha.

get outta town ... you're jokin right? NOPE I HAVE'NT GOT THE WIRING HARNESS YET BUT THE BOOK AND THE LEARNING MODEL THAT I DOWNLOADED OFF OF THE LOWRANCE WEBSITE BOTH SHOWED HOW TO HOOK IT UP. WHEN I GET MY T-TOP ON MY CENTER CONSOLE I'M ADDING THE RADAR UNIT SINCE MY 522 HAS THE OPTION OF ADDING RADAR TO IT.

you must have a lot of money. i can't believe the price of the radar receivers. I FISH SALTWATER A LOT AND SOME OF THE BIG LAKES LIKE PK SPENDING 1099.99 ON RADAR IS MONEY WELL SPENT. I WOULD'NT HAVE GONE OUT AND PURCHASED A STAND ALONE RADAR BUT SINCE MY 522iGPS RECEIVER ALREADY HAS THE DISPLAY ADDING THE LRA-1800 High Definition Radome Radar UNIT TO IT WOULD BE EASY ENOUGH. AND IT'S ONLY MONEY YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU.

It definitely is important if you do a lot of salt water. I am bass (and occasionally trout) pretty much so I never get that far from the bank. Adding it should be easy and it should come with the connectors for the network. I just networked my 520 and 522 together. Make sure you get the right color connectors. Good luck, and let us know how you like it.

522I HAS THE INTERNAL ANTENNA. IT ALSO HAS THE AVAILABILITY TO HOOK UP TO CERTAIN ENGINES LIKE MY SUZUKI DF90 AND DO DIAGNOSTICS. We are off the color locator subject but DeerStrangler is correct about this awesome function that Lowrance/Suzuki has. I have a Suzuki 175 DF connected to a LCX 113 through their network. I can see my MPG, GPH, TRIM, Fuel Remaining, Livewell Temp, RPM, Ground Speed, etc...... It's an option, but just 1 extra wire from the computer inside the Suzuki straight to the Lowrance. When hooked up properly it takes the place of all your guages. The 175 will push the WELD PRO crusing speed at 30 MPH/4300 RPM and still get around 5.6 MPG. It's pretty nice to see all that information on your locator when gas prices are high.

The t-top is still in the shopping around phase since I have a new for 08 boat from Bluewave. I'm sure they are realatively generic in design but I'm kinda picky. As far as I know they are only compatible with the Suzuki but if you inquire with Lowrance they might be able to shed some more light on the topic.

Redfish, that feature is also available for Yamaha. The Lowrance site has the module listed under accessories. You need some other stuff to make all the stuff work (for example the livewell temp would need a temp probe obviously) and a guage (choice of 2) to read it.
