I use a fly that is almost a woolly bugger. It has the marabou tail, chenille body, but no hackle. I also add either bead chain, or lead eyes. I can find nothing in "The Orvis" book. I know I am not so creative as to invent a new fly. Need some help on what it is. It is KILLER on white bass during the spawn and B'gills any time.

Without the eyes it is called a Bream Killer. What have you been catching on it?

I use them mainly in the spring for white bass spawning in rivers and creeks. I will also use in flood control lakes for big B'gill.

Isnt a wolly bugger just marabou and chanille any way? I thought the hackle was an add on for a collar or a body extra. Do you need hackle to have a bugger?
I like that pattern there I tied a few in olive and brown tonight with silver bead chain for the next time im on the water. Im always looking for new patterns that I can tie.
Thanks for the cats whisker pattern trout bum it has become my go to fly. I am especially fond of it in brown and green as well as in black rabbit and purple chenille together.
I tried to find the moreau special pattern but couldnt find anything. Does anyone have a pic or list of what goes into it?

What sized hook are you using for the White Bass Killer? I think I may make some up. I bet it is a bigger fly than I use for the Bream Killer. (I use a tungsten bead head for the Bream Killer usually)

flies that don't have names are just...
wait for it....
flies that don't have names.
now, if they are significantly different than existing flies, you might give them a name. but tying or fishing a fly that is significantly different than existing flies is rare.

I have the same problem with the flys that I tie.. no name but they are like other flys that have been tied for many years.. I'll make up any name that I think fits.. Doesn't really matter unless you need to explain to someone what the fly is for and how to use it. I refer to most of my flys by the class they are in, like streamers, hair bugs or poppers etc. I gave my last popper creation a name that identifies the base component, EarPlug bass popper. So if your fly is for whitebass and is a streamer-like fly call it something like DH's whitebass streamer wooly booger..

Just make up something using some parts of the component names like the one I tie from racoon fur using the guard hairs for the tail, under fur dubbing and a partridge feather soft hackle collar. Call it "Poon" from Partridge and Coon.

Mylar and chenille are different materials. Are you refering to the other thread about mylar minnows?? You can find trimming in the craft dept. that will work as mylar. It's the round tube like shiny stuff used to trim pillows and upholstery. Cut a piece and pull the core out and you have a mylar tube.
