When will trolling start to make sense? Is it a water temp thing or is it just when the crappie follow the shad? If you long line troll what kind of rig would you do? I heard someone talking about pushing crank baits? Can you catch any fish this time of year trolling?

I have never done any long line trolling, but as far as spiderrigging I have done my share over the past three years. November is when I begin trolling, water temps usually in the low 60'2 and below. But you can catch fish year around doing both Im sure.

Thanks Cliff, im really going to try and hit it pretty hard this winter. My favorite days on Texoma are when the wind is howling and those huge slabs are biting. I have 6 10ft pro angler rods that i bought for spider rigging. Did i make a mistake? Didnt i need some different sizes or should they all be the same?

Haven't had much success trolling for crappie when the wind is howling--
10' rods will work just fine---

We start trolling in the fall when the fish leave the brush. late October.

You can troll cranks now. We only troll with 10' rods.

Comne to the Lavon event on November 15th. We'll be doing some on the water seminars. I'll take 3-4 at a time for a 30 minute crash course.

We'll also have another trolling video finished in late November. It'll be updated.

Its a job but you can do it what type of equipmant are you running!

Also what size hook or jig head rig and set-up are you using brian just curious!

I use a 1/24th its hard to get butn you can make it yourself but i like to trole or long line!

Sometimes even the best of us when we get in them good wind up with um raped up in our troling motors and catfish on instead of crappie!

Its is a very popular technique, some guys like ronnie caps an coleman with BnM or even wally can tell you there are those days!

But im confident that youll pull through it just like the rest of us. thumb

Even the best of us had to start somewere!

Trolling is nothing new to the tournament circut, but Im still a rookie just over 3 years under my belt. Its something that can be as simple as crackers and cheese on a calm day to not burning a steak over a hot grill depending on the the wind. Lots of minor/major quirks, just seems to be have you percieve it/ deal with it. If alone start slow with 2-4 rods and get the feel of the conditions and as you progress, increase if wind allows. Simple carolina rig with 1 hook /1 weight is suffiecent in most cases. As you build confidence 2 hooks and more rods come into play. Theres no scientific answer other than troll into the wind as slow as possible and watch for the most simple/indescrete bites and always set the hook if any doubt of a bite. OK then let Paul and Jerry explain the rest, this is just a starting point. smile Because they can fine tune this all day long. Good Luck Brian and you will be hooked as I was just after a few limits of relax fishing.
