I took a trip down to once was a little gem. As I made my way down to shore I found oil slick over several hundred feet out of the 11 acres of water shed mainly along the shore. Somebody out their sick mind dumped several containers of auto fluids in the water! I made an effort to pick up a few of these containers but the damage is done. Several large and small bass, crappie and bream lie dead along the shore. The oil slick is thick enough that some of the vegetation is dieing off. I will be in contact with the city parks dept and the game warden as soon as 9 am tomorrow and explain my findings. I'm not sure how bad the future damage will be. I'm sick to my stomach just at the site of this.

Thats horrible.
idk if thats a corps lake or not, but I would notify whoever 'runs' the lake, or the warden.

Flood and erosion control I believe. There are several of these small lakes dotted through out areas north and east of dfw. Most of them are on private land and a lot them have trophy bass along with good crappie and catfish populations.

Why don't you notify them today? The slick will only spread more by waiting.

You need to notify the General Land Office and the Texas Railroad Commission so they can send a response team to clean it up.

the slick looks as though its been there for a few days and it has not spread any further then that area where the containers were dumped onwords toward the dam. So I don't see a need to notify them today. I'm sure that the parks dept will take care of it quickly.

Thats horrible.. I live in Royse City, and had been wondering if Phelps was a publicly accessible lake so my wife and I could have a fun place close to home to enjoy God's beauty, and MAYBE pull a fish or two. Shame on anybody who would do such devastating harm.. looks like for now I need to find another lil honey hole.

Damn, that pisses me off! Why the h*11 would they do that on a lake or river? In addition, what really ticks me off are the illegal dumping of trash in the creek and river.

Don’t these people paid the city for trash pick? On the other hand, are these people live in the country (the Stick, the Booney) with no regular trash pickup like town people? I know most country forks burn their own trash.

now you know how I feel about Crappie Condos. Its just like dumping trash in our lakes, same thing goes with oil, etc. Yes the crappie condos wont do damage like oil, but it is still trash and it will end up somewhere downstream.
