I tied up some Sucker Punches today. I'd never tried my hand at them before. So it was a pleasant surprise to see just how "buggy" these flies look.

Some little unweighted ones ought to be good for bream.

Nice looking fly. Very "buggy" indeed.

What is the "tentacles" material used for the tail? I couldn't find it on the Orvis site.

Chris

They might've been discontinued. It's basically very fine, almost thread-like, centipede leg material.

I saw that it's gone. I got some from Cabelas once, they or BPS might still carry something analogous.

Thanks.

I have some of their mini centipede legs. Perhaps they just discontinued the tentacles name.

That may be. if it's the same stuff, it just flops about, like hair almost. no rubbery bounce to speak of.

I have seen that fly before and it does look good! Only I don't have all the right stuff to make one or two...or a few...hehehe. I have dubbing, hooks, dubbing wax, thread...but that is it...don't have the rest. I may just kinda make do with a similar fly made out of substituted materials. I may make flies for Caddo today, don't know for sure. If so I may tackle one of the Sucker Punch flies too.

Controlling all those strands of rubber takes a bit of practice. My first attempt has no legs on one side, but the 2nd is balanced.

I agree, rubber is a trick. I managed a black cats whisker with about 8 neon green legs perfectly balanced on both sides and it looked great in the water. Till a 3-4 pound LMB liked it enough to take it from me. mad Wooooooweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I got a big...... never mind.

I'm getting to the bottom of my barrel so will need to stock up soon. Since Orvis pulled the plug on those Tentacles and I used most of my supply, has anyone put hands on those mini-centipede legs? Are they the same very small, delicate stuff?

I haven't got around to updating the site and I should, but, what I'm using now is

Centipede legs-- speckled - Montana Fly Company- size Mini #0 / color speckled Orange #801.

They are almost as flexible as the tentacles were. My tentacles horde is getting kinda brittle.

You just need to find some fresh octopi, Dave.

I got a some of the last Tentacles that Orvis had on hand, but not all the colors I wanted, so I tried the Centipede legs from Bass Pro, which worked fine. I also got some, in other colors, from Montana Fly (nice guy).

The little ones need some weight too. I tied a few on #12 nymph hooks. All that bugginess wants to hang onto the surface tension. The fly slowly sank after a strip or two of the line.
