Here it is guys. I have a 96' F-250 7.3 4x4 with 265,000 miles. On my way to Houston today I had several incidents with the load I was pulling that required me to pull over on the highway. While adjusting the load I left the truck running in park. Three different times the engine died while it was idling. As long as I was pushing the "go" pedal the truck never missed a beat, only when in park. You guys have any idea what it could be? Water in my diesel? The "water in fuel" light never came on but after all it is 1996 model. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys cheers

Water in the fuel,,,cps,,or Pcm,,,I would put a new fuel filter on it,,a cps is around 18 bucks,,,if the truck was chipped it might be the pcm,,mine did the same thing ended up being the pcm,,,400.00 bucks runs like a top,,,

I would also first change the fuel filter. If that doesn't stop it have your fuel pressure checked.

no check engine light?

when was the last time your oil was changed? If I'm not mistaken, the injectors are fired with hydrolic pressure (oil) and if the oil get thin or "too old" then the engine will run rough and might die if the problem is bad enough...

does the engine smoke at all, if so, what color?

start with the simple stuff then work your way up....

sorry guys forgot to check back in. The truck is fine. I think it was water in my diesel. My truck has two tanks. One was filled with fuel from Murphy USA and the other with Valero. Once I burned up the Murphy USA tank the tuck was fine. Thanks for all y'all's help. I appreciate it. I will definatley let y'all know if there are any further problems.
