There is alot of give-and-take regarding this thread, but the bottom line how I see it is that many, if not the majority of these folks that operate personal watercraft do so in a dangerous and reckless manner. (Disclaimer> I know that there are some responsible PWC operators) I cannot count how many times a day someone decides it will be great fun to run head-to-head right at me or comes at me from the side in excess of 60mph to jump my wake. Very few of these operators of PWC take a water safety course or learn the rules on the water. While a lone rider on a waverunner deciding to do loops next to a dock and/or boat ramp may seem harmless to a few of you, it just shows a complete disrespect for the law and lake rules. There is a ton of water on the main lake to run.
When Britteny Lindt was killed on Lake Lewisville by a boater doing donuts around her, it was called an accident. If I decided to do donuts in my car just because I didn't see pedestrians on the roadway I would be in jail! The rules should apply on the water just the same as on the road!

That kind of reasoning would be like when I was a kid and walked around kicking my legs in the air. If a brother/sister got kicked, it wasn't my fault, because I didn't see them.
Only, instead of kicking, it's with a moving vehicle which can kill someone.

I'm not disputing that pwc can kill, and that majority of them are dangerous riders. Just don't see this guy putting anyone but himself in danger?

Corey, please understand that my first post was not directed at you in particular - yours was just the most recent post to respond to. No personal animosity involved here, ok? Sure, that particular jetskier doesn't appear to be putting anyone else in danger at that moment, but his behavior is still reckless; I'm sure he'd have no problem being reckless with other people at risk.
Yes, there's many responsible jetskiers & pleasure boaters, just as there are also some reckless fishermen. The responses are in regard to this particular jetskiers blatant disregard of boating laws & courtesy to others. Courtesy to others is something you do whether you think anyone is watching or not (kinda like ethics).

Perhaps, however if that guy decides to break one of the most common rules on a body of water then who knows what else he will decide to violate. Your example is like saying "since there are no cars at the four-way stop intersection I can just blow the stop sign because no one will get hurt". The rules are posted and on the books for many reasons. Besides not "putting anyone else in danger", no wake zones also protect the integrity of the shoreline and structures. And here is another point, just because he is too ignorant to follow the rules, so what if he injures himself by hitting the dock? I guess it is okay to have fire and rescue go out and save his sorry butt instead of being available for other emergencies? I'm not disputing that pwc can kill, and that majority of them are dangerous riders. Just don't see this guy putting anyone but himself in danger?

HAHA Funny stuff, I live in the country and I ROLL through stop signs with noone there all the time! How many of you guys do the posted speed limit 100% of the time. Now I know all are going to say I DO I DO, but doubtful anyone on this thread hasn't broke the speed limit once! How many have had an open beer while running just down the street in your car? How many drank before you were of legal age? I mean if you want to get technical lets get technical! And to your emt responce, do they come to your rescue for free? I think there is always a bill for the ambulance ride!!!!!

I don't see why fisherman hate jet skiers? My dad used to get so worked up over them getting close to the boat while we were fishing, all it is is a couple of waves you have to balance through?

Corey.....
You make a good point, as I am sure that all of us have bent the rules and/or laws, some of us on a routine basis. I wasn't implying that some of us are above reproach. However it is out of safety that these laws are on the books. And, it is when we decide to break one of the rules is when someone gets injured and/or killed.
