Is it still possible to beach at the cove inside the jetties on the south? side and walk over to the beach along the old aircraft landing strip?

We did it this morning. about a mile walk along the south jetty on the old landing strip. It is totally amazing to see the development on the tip of the matagorda peninsula. Numerous houses and vehicles, including a full suv parked under one of the houses. The land is available to purchase and develop. Supposedly they have water wells and electricity now.

Wow...has that place changed. It is so vulnerable to a storm surge like Carla did in '61

There is one guy that has been living on the island for about two years now. He has one of the houses closer to Pass Cavallo. If I'm not mistaken, he is a former police officer possibly from the Victoria area. He chronicles his life out there periodically in the Victoria Advocate. From his writings, he is pretty much self sufficent. To the best of my knowledge, there are no water wells or electricity out there. He has a generator for power and has some type of large water containment system that he catches rainwater in.

someone in POC ferries the vehicles over there. I have not heard of waterwells or elec. Now that the laws have changed yes you have to get a permit from the state to build or occupy over there.
