We have been looking forward to a YaknYota Family get together on the Upper Brazos scheduled for earlier in this week in honor of my Dad turning 60.
Our day arrives as my Brother, Niece, Nephew, Dad, Mom, RiverViking and myself head out to the Upper Brazos for a Family River Kayak Fishing Adventure.
Even for a one day trip, being the sole outfitter for a group of 7 has it's complexities, as does bringing everybody together from as far as Austin, to come celebrate Dad's 60th on the River. Now, throw in a forcast of 60% showers & t-storms for the day , and well, you get the idea.
We get a late start, which gives us enough light to see that for now, we have dodged a bullet as far as weather goes.
So we head down River.
My Brother & Niece stop to fish a nice run. Nothing like a little Father/Daughter time on the river.
It does not take long, and my Brother is into a fine LMB on light gear.
Soon, Dad is in on the LMB action.
Our bite turns sour, so we head to another location to see if we can round up some stripers, as some of the folks in our group have never caught any before. However, that was about to change. As we arrive and set out lines, in short order one of the rods goes off and Mom comes tight to a scrappy Brazos striper.
Next, it is my Nieces turn and she puts up a fine resistance to this bulldogging Linesider, and whips her first striper singlehandedly.
Nice fish!!!
Even RiverViking stops he and his Cousin's impromtu "Brazos River Summer Olympics" just long enough to trade blows with this fiesty Brazos striper.
Next up, it's the Birthday Boy. Our Grizzled River Veteran finds his hands full with a fine Brazos striper. This turned out to be the big fish of the day. Rather appropriate, don't you think?
My Niece was into fish all day. Here, Father & Daughter tag team a quality Brazos striper.
