Zip, nada, nothing. Not only that but got my bag of gear stolen.
Tuesday started out great. It was overcast, but still nice, very calm, the water was flat. Then of course we get to the boat ramp down at Conn-Brown, the wind started picking up and rain was eminent. Frog Toggs were in full effect.
It started sprinkling when we got on the water, then came the rain and more wind. We fished out from the jetties for a little while, the rain and wind calmed down. We thought about going out to the first set of rigs but wiser minds prevailed. Then came the downpour.
We headed for the bays. Caught misc bait fish for the new chum grinder, that was about the excitement of the day. By 4pm is was sunny and nice out again. But we weren't catching much. Hit the usual spots, but just nothing worthwhile.
Came in around 7pm, sat my tackle bag on the table next to the cleaning station, got side tracked and forgot about it. Came back and hour later, time to build a new bag. Someone got $250 gift bag. Biggest pain was my flask from my wedding was in there, everything else is replaceable.
Thursday was beautiful weather. We stopped off at San Jose to catch some bait, then headed for the first set of rigs. The blue water was pretty close, maybe 2 miles. Not too many seaweed patches nor birds working.
At the rigs there were a lot of baitfish, we caught them till our arms were tired. Chummed and brought in a nice 5ft hammerhead, but that was about it. I had to break offs, one because I was stupid and the other was because the drag was setup for a different fish.
We left the rig and started trolling towards another when all of a sudden I had a huge hit. Line zipping off, I hunkered in for the fight. Fought for about 5 mins saw a splash or two but couldn't see what it was. A big wave crested and a faint white outline appeared, still couldn't tell. Then I see my lure in the mouth of what it was, it was flipper. Such a let down.
He toyed with our bait for a while, we got some good video of him up next to the boat about 2ft away. He was just having fun. Guess he felt sorry for us and wanted to give us a little excitement.
Back near the waterline, we caught a few sharks. Then headed back into the bays, just wasn't in the cards for us.
We did manage to get the biggest mullet I had ever seen, with a throw net no less. Maybe next time.
