I was wadeing of a grass flat the other day caught a nice trout and a 17 inch flounder i also caught tons of little school trouts and reds. then the rest of the day i caught at least 20 of these lady fish really slimmy. all were from 0.5 pounds to 3 pounds they hit every thing i through in the water they were really anoying just wondering if anyone was running into the same problem? i was wadeing in west bay, galveston
Ladyfish (nickname-Ten-pounders) are fun to catch, but no good to eat...IMO But sure make, good Shark-bait... But, is usually a good sign of trout in the area when catching them... And beats the heck out of catching tons of Hardheads...

I'd sure like to get into some of that ladyfish action. Are they around in the winter? I'll be down in Port A from Dec to March. Have a boat and kayak.Where does one find ladyfish? What type of flies? Blind fishing or sight fishing? Any info is appreciated.
With time, my view of them has really changed.....from pest to really fun sport fish. If you want to learn how to fly fish salt water, go after them...they are great teachers to prepare for the silver king.
I already have some knowledge on saltwater flyfishing and have caught reds trout flounder and pompano on a flyrod. I fish all winter long around Port A and would really like some more info on ladyfish. I think they would be a blast on a six wt rod. Could someone tell me where I can find these fish?
I caught a few at GISP(Goose Island State Park in Rockport) last 2 trips...Fishing there lighted pier at night...And a lot of schoolie trout...If you can get a chance to go during the midweek, you should have plenty of room to fly fish there...Will be there tonight myself..Not a flyfisherman, but like using my ultra light with small (tandem-rigged) swim baits or crapppie jigs...

We've been on the coast for almost a year now. Caught quite a few lady fish, but I don't recall any in winter time, either last fall or this spring. The biggest I caught was on the Aransas Channel (Shrimper's Channel to many locals). I caught several off a pier on the ICW in Aransas Pass. These I caught at night, just at the edge of the pier lights, on a live shrimp under a bobber. The ones I catch either go for cut fish bait, or for bait in my crab pots. We picked up quite a few over near Shamrock Island near the mouth of Wilson Cut (boat trip).
Lady fish are fun to catch. I would pick 20 lady fish over no fish at all. Everytime I hook one, I am amazed about how fast they are. You throw you bait out beind to boat, next think you know, a lady fish is jumping on the other side of the boat with your bait. Really a lot of fun.
Low I like to use my Super Lite tackle on thse mini tarpons . Fishing does not have to be a 50 lb fish to be fun . lite tackle and a real good jumping fish is a blast. you want a tug of war hook a 2lb golden croaker on a zebco 202 and watch that reel scream , same with a lady fish .

Gawd I hope I catch a fish so big I will not have to lie again >>>> My phone # 713 517 9096
i've hooked atleast 50 this summer and landed 2 or 3. have caught them offshore that go about 8 to 10lbs. they look like baseball bats. these little ones in the bays are fun to catch if nothing else is biteing i guesss. better then nothing. poor mans tarpon. lots of jumps. everytime i hooked up, they would give me 2 or 3 good jumps and the hook always came out.
