Any thoughts on the Daiwa Steez Baitcaster and Spinning reels?

I know they are expensive and wondered if they were really worth the money.

As far as the baitcaster goes its unreal how light and well this reel works, but as far as the cost I have a diawa zillion and I would just as soon use it. But if you have the $$ to spend its a great reel definantly worth the money because it doesnt even feel like theres a reel on your rod.

Thanks for the input. My Dad is an avid and long time fisherman and I was looking for a gift.

Now I need to match a rod to the reel. Any ideas for a matching rod?

my friend has the baitcasting reel, it is unbelievably very light, the lightest reel i had ever held. very slick looking too. It cost a lot though. if you have the money go for it ! thumb

I have always been concerned with the integrated the digital circuits in these high dollar reels. Will they hold up for the long haul, because my Dad keeps his reels a long time.

I have 6 Steez reels and I love them. Most are about 2 years old and they have been fished hard but still look and perform like new. At first I was very leery because of their weight and price but after getting one I never looked back and they are the best reel I have ever used. I only use them for flipping/pitching and weightlesss soft plastics and they have been flawless. The light weight is incredible and they are smooth as silk. I have caught some bigger fish on them and never an issue with the drag and never a lack of power.
They probably are not for everyone and hopefully you'll get some responses from guys that have actually used them and have more to offer than opinions. Maybe there are folks that have had trouble with them but I have never heard a single complaint from an actual user other than price. I work a few shows and sales for Daiwa each year and we sell more than a few and so far no complaints that I am aware of.
Best ting to do is make your own choice and see if its right for you. Its a lot of money and just make the best choice to fit your needs and wants.

I'd be real careful questioning my integrity here. If you have ever met me or been around me at a show you know I am painfully honest and I could care less what brand you use just as long as you are happy. I'm not one to bash other brands or try to push my stuff on anyone. I've sold many Shimanos and ABUs at the reel counter while wearing a Daiwa shirt during a show because I do not believe in hard selling a product. Even my post above says that very thing. They are not for everyone and the best thing is to make sure that whatever brand you buy you are happy with. Do a search here and anytime you have seen me post about a product I always say to do what fits you best no matter the brand. So again take a minute to know the person before you question integrity. I don't need a patch or a little $$$ bad enough to throw away my credibility.

Maybe the best thing to do is to give my Dad a $1,000 Gift Card and let him do his own shopping!

thumb Yep. Your not going to impress him with a Steez. If he's like my dad, he will call you an idiot for spending that much $ on a reel and why didn't you just buy him 3 Revos instead.

I've never owned a Steez, nor have I fished with one. By all accounts that I know of the Steez have been universally praised. The only down side that I'm aware of is the cost.

Of the Diawa reels that I've used I've got to say that the Zillion is MOST impressive. It's an excellent reel.

All that said, I'm mostly a Shimano guy. I've got two Chronarch 100BSVs, two Chronarch 50MGs, and one Chronarch 100DPV. They are all just exceptional reels.

If someone wanted to give me a rod & reel combo I love one of the new St. Croix Legend Elite rods with any any of the Chronarchs that I've mentioned, or a Zillion, or perhaps a TD Sol.

If I could find one I love to get a custom rod made with a one of the old green St. Croix Legend Elite blanks specifically the 63MXF. I'd pair it with a TD Sol. It would make a heck of a small weightless soft plastics rig.

My Dad is a big Shimano guy, he uses the Cumara rods and loves them for their weight.

I don't believe the Core is available in left hand models.

Talked to my Dad tonight and he wants a few of the new Shimano Curado E's. Makes my decision pretty easy.

Mark, anyone that knows you. dosen't question your integrity. With over 3600 post I would say ensignjason has changed his handle at some time? Perhaps he has put his foot in his mouth before??? I am not sponsored by Daiwa, but I agree, I have several steez and have owned the DC's. The steez will perform with them, and are much more mecanically fundamental to service.
