When I lived in TX we'd put in at Freeport, we'd get to the blue water sooner than putting in at Galveston.

How far out were you there? Can I find weedlines at near shore waters or do I need to go to deeper waters?

Weedlines vary..

You can find them 2 miles and closer out to 100+.

7-15 miles is a good place to start looking if you are hunting for chickens and silver bullets.

20+ miles is a good place to look for lines and set up for smokers.

Weedlines are good and its smart to grab a piece of the weedline and see what lives on it (bait for fish) also wooden hull shrimp boats are also a good thing to check. I have caught more kings on shrimp boats and more dorado on weedlines.

Another cool trick when catching dorado is to get them to school at the back of the boat. When you get one hooked up reel him to the back of the boat and leave him in the water until someone else gets hooked up and takes its place. They will school at the back of the boat and you can fill your boat with scrumptious dolphin. The ballyhoo rig works great as does just about anything shiney when they are hungry.

Good fishin!
