Rather salient points. http://www.reason.com/news/show/128200.html"When states lowered their drinking age in the 1970s, they got more drunk-driving deaths among teenagers than similar states that stayed at 21." "Among the qualities that make 18-year-olds such good soldiers are their fearlessness and sense of immortality—traits that do not mix well with alcohol." "It's not hard to make a logical case for allowing 18-year-olds to buy alcohol, but only if you disregard the practical effects of letting them do something that many of them are not mature enough to handle. In this debate, the ultimate wisdom comes from Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, who reminded us that sometimes, a page of history is worth a volume of logic."

Thanks, Tall--I could not agree more. Anyone in here who actually believes a high school senior is mature/responsible enough to drink legally just plain hasn't been paying attention.

Good God what does it matter, the law never stopped anyone under age from drinking Stopped me, BI. I KNOW I am in the vast minority, but I waited until I was 21.

Do you believe that a 18 year old is mature enough to kill someone and be put to death because of it? But still not be able to order a Bud?

I didnt feel like reading this whole thread so im saying something that might have been said already.
If someone wanted to drink they will find a way to do it no matter what age.
Kids my age and a little older drink cause they want to proove they can do what ever they want
Then there are some others that drink just cause its illegal.
Others, drink cause if their parents can drink they should be able too....cause they're just as mature.
There would probably be a decline of drunkeness or however you say it if it was legal at that age.

Thanks, Tall--I could not agree more. Anyone in here who actually believes a high school senior is mature/responsible enough to drink legally just plain hasn't been paying attention. How do we know if they're responsible to drink legally when it's illegal? The fact of the matter is, there is a percentage of the population who isn't responsible to drink at any age. Basically, since some people are lacking, the people who aren't lacking cannot have rights? Maybe we should put an age on procreation. There are so many people who have children and don't have the money and/or life skills to raise them properly. A larger percentage of those children raised in a single parent home go on to commit crimes. The point I'm trying to make is if you are an adult, you should have the same rights and liberties as any other adult. It is not my job to tell another adult what's best for him/her.

Interesting point that I heard was that the reason University Presidents are in favor, is to open up Beer sales at College Sporting events. Just think of the revenue for the old Alma Mater.

It doesn't give the right to chat on the internet either, but is it not assumed as a privilege of a free society?

Its not a right, its a privledge. So the government allows us to drink alcohol?? well, I guess they have tried to make it illegal before....that went over real well.

Next thing you know, some of ya'll are going to want marijuana legalized. It should be. Another tax revenue stream; get control away from drug lords; and it is probably less harmful to you than alcohol. Not to mention, it frees up space in the jails for the real criminals and lowers the costs of running the jails. BTW: I don't use the stuff, never have. I've tried it a handful of times in my younger days and didn't care for it.
