I will be in East Galveston Bay with a buddy this Saturday in his new boat.
It says its suppose to rain (30% chance scattered t-storms). What should we really focus on when fishing during this huge front moving through Texas?
I have heard Specs dont like muddy or sandy water? ANY tips on ANY species would help since I am a freshwater fisherman =)
Thanks ya'll!!!!

Does the boat have a cabin where you can get out of the rain and lightning?

NO! Im a man, not a little girl.
I rather die out on the water than on land so, now that that is taken care of, lets move forward.
Any FISHING TIPS would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what you should focus on, since I'm new at this too, but, while in Galveston this is my experience so far...
Fish are out there, even during storms, if they are hungry they'll eat! But, you probably wont have as many bites like on a good weather day.
30% chance of rain aint bad, probably will be here sooner than they expect and be gone by Saturday. Try and get out before the sunrise - they like breakfast early! LOL
We just fish with live or dead fresh shrimp, during one trip the trout really seemed to love the cut bait(piggy perch, whiting & croakers) we cut em up while out there But then another trip it wasn't getting it, so - maybe it just depends on their appetite!
Also, take a rain coat and dont go out too far, and don't go out if the water is rough. Not worth it.
I don't really know much, I'm a newbie but, I did give you something other than "stay home" like the others!

I cant really offer any advice on fishing in salt though, but I can tell you I was at port A yesterday with a 90% chance of thunderstorms. It ended up raining for a couple hours at noon then was the clearest nicest day at the beach i had every had. The mullet wher jumping all over the surf and the skip jack where plenty along the jetty.

Yea, we will just be fishing the bay, if they weather is nice, we might try to hit up a jetty, but that all depends on the water.
Any good tips on keeping shrimp lively? It seems as though every time I get them, they are dead before we even start fishing.

Use a 5 gallon bucket with a lid an aerator. You can pick them up at academy or just about any tackle shop for around $30.00 or make your own. On hot days I freeze a couple of qt size ziplock bags full of water and put them in the bucket or livewell. It seems to help a lot. Do NOT add ice to the livwell because they add too much fresh water. Good luck and let us know how much fun you had.

I will give a very detailed report, if we end up with anything,
I will be giving all my hot spots etc just because I never fish down there.

freeze a few bottles of water to put in your baitbucket or livewell. one at a time to just chill the water a little bit. i have kept my bait alive all day in a bucket with bottles of water. hit the jetties. fish don't care if its raining. its all the fresh water that dumps into the bays that mess everything up.

Cool! Also, I want to use some Piggy's as well. I remember catching these little guys when I was a kid. What size should I target and which ones are to big?
I remember them being about 4-5 inches. Are those good size for trout? or should I use smaller ones?

Ha! Hilarious! Butch up Sally! Ha!
To the OP:
Fish do eat in the Rain! Fishing has been down for me since August 8. Regardless, I go every weekend rain or shine. Stay away from the mouths of river or bayous dumping in as it will be adding too much freshwater. My advice if it is raining, the sand and mud close to shore will be stirred up so try to get out to the green water, possibly off of a pier.
Have 2 rigs:
Double leader under a poppin cork and a bottom dragging rig. ...and a cast net for bait! ....or Live shrimp.
Wear swim trunks, Sandals, and bring a towel and a spare change of clothes.
And have fun!

We always throw back the Gaftops, are they worth keeping? We've caught some really big ones too.
