I plan on doing some preventative maintenance on my XR6. A lot of the hoses on the engine have age cracks and this looks like something just waiting to bite me. I'm assuming I can buy bulk lengths of the right size the cut to measure or is that incorrect? Will there be any priming necessary for anything disconnected or any other gotchas?

Thanks JW, I have one. Not that I fault your approach, but that is best when you have one area that you are focusing on. I plan to replace several (many) hoses and while I would love to know what each one is and does, that would be to much time. I'm all for knowing your motor better and always strive to learn more. I'm sure most are vacumn, oil, and fuel of some type. The fuel and oil should be fairly apparent due to their connections. Maybe this limits the remaining majority to vacumn, I dont know. Just looking to mine some knowledge that seems to be abundant on this forum. I'm looking for any oh chit, I should have done A before I did B. If ther are areas that I should pay more attention to, I will turn to the manual.

A factory service manual for that motor will be more informative. Those smallest hoses are bleed hoses to prevent puddling of fuel in the intake for better idle. I do`nt see a problem as long as you change one at a time. I do`nt think you want to buy bulk because it comes in 100ft rolls. A Merc shop will have it in rolls where you can buy what you need or check at your local NAPA. Just be shure to get fuel & oil resistent hose.

The only bleeding necessary will be on the oil pump after you change the oil hoses.
