Went to pick up boat last night. This I thought was a great deal as it was a 96 Skeeter with very low hours on it. I have been negotiating with the seller for about 3 weeks now and we finally agreed to a price.

With money in hand I went to get it.

Now according to the seller this boat has less than 30 hours total. He has taken it out and ran it, boat does 47 mph.

When we put the rabbit ears on to crank it up I notice the water wasn't flowing through like it should. When he cranked it gas was spewing from the carbs and it wasn't pumping water. The motor overheated in a matter of seconds!

At that point I realized the search continues. I'm just glad it happened when it did instead of waiting till I got it home. Thank you lord!

Before ever buying a used boat, take it to a Repair Shop and have them check two things...Compression and the Lower Unit. This is the absolute least you shoud do. You'll Thank Yourself.

I know the guy and I feel sorry for him. He got the boat in a deal where he did some A/c Work and he thought he made out like a bandit, I think he's got close to a grand in the boat in repairs up till now and it looks like at least that much more before he's done.

His wife is riding his behind if you know what I mean...

My mechanic has a 95 21ft bass cat pantera with a 200 merc he said he would sell. He was a guide on fork and says this boat will do like 85mph. He doesnt want much for it. I thought about buying it just to try and make a little money with.

I found a 1999 Sea Arc 18' Aluminum with all the bells and whistles. I am going to pick it up Monday. Pretty good deal if you can find a Bass Cat at a bargain price. Those boats are hot items for bass fishermen. Dont even want to think about 85 on the water! LOL

I do and i tell my wife that i was a crappie fisherman when i met her and one if it takes the other!

That's too bad. The guy that bought my 20' 1996 Skeeter with a 200 Yamaha with low hours got a steal. I had just not used it so much after I changed out the motor in 2000. I kept it under a roof all the time and it still looked brand new. I let him have it for $14k and that was about 3 years ago. He brought cash and was one happy camper.

Oh and mine ran about 75 MPH GPS clocked.

Maybe you will find yours soon. Have you looked on the http://www.southeasttexas.com/index.cfm Web site? If you keep looking there some nice deals come up from time to time. I sold 2 boats using that web site for ads. Click on the classified and then fresh water boats.

Also lot of other good buy on that site if you never looked you should.

They suck gas. I had one on a 18ft center console. It would run about 45-50. I really never had any problems other than the oil line being brittle and breaking. 2 dollar fix! I know Spanky on the forum would be an excellent choice to call about looking it over for you. Or Michael from North texas fiberglass.

I have a 4 stroke 90 on a 22 ft toon, runs 26mph gps..and is great on gas...have yet to have any issues with it

Yea Spanky is a good guy I've talked to him a couple of times during this boat buying experience. He's told me alot of things to look for when buying a used boat.

You are the other hand are smart to start the motor before you bought it.

Don't give up.. The right one will come along..
