Ok, I am a bass fisherman in Galveston for a little relaxation for an entire week. I am in Pirates Beach and have been told to go to the State Park and wade fish. What do I do? Other than rods, all I brought with me are a few popping corks, some jigheads and some Gulp 3 and 4 inch shrimp(new penny).

Popping cork or no popping cork?
3" or 4" shrimp?
Live bait?
Secret spots?
The surf?

Any help is appreciated!!

The fishing at the park can be good on the Bay side, but you'll most likely have to wade...I like free-lining piggy-perch or finger mullet...But Gulps should be fine, with 1/16oz jig head or 1/8oz to bounce off bottom...Get a park map, they have put in a lot of artificials reefs or grass islands on the bay side...I've actually caught reds and flounder on the walk across bridge on the trail by the look-out towers...But it's been awhile since I've been there myself...

Also, they have 2 freshwater tanks or ponds stocked with Black- bass...And sometimes will stock the one by the Ampitheatre with Channel Catfish... grin

And if you go to the park office, there should be someone there that will give you some advise, pointers etc...

My uncle in Houston said he has been catching some nice reds on the bay side, this past month...Mostly on gold spoons and free-lining finger mullet he catches in cast net...But he takes a kayak, and is able to cover a lot more area...
Good luck...

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. The little secret spot I was told to visit is on the bay side. I will go in the morning to buy some gold spoons 'cus I keep hearing that.

Thanks again!!

I forgot to mention, if you go all the way to the end on the bay side...You can also bottom fish with dead-shrimp, or wade out to the (right of the fish cleaning staion)...Just throw out towards the big cove there, or towards the island or (the cut) that comes out of cove(inbetween the 2 islands)...It's usually a little deeper there...Croaker,whiting,drum with an ocassional reds, trout and flounder...

I like that spot, being on average tides you can setup a folding chair on the edge of water and just kick-back...But if the croaker, whiting and drum are in there, or the inevatible(hardheads) you won't be sitting down much...lol
And might want to be sure to get a can of OFF, mosquito spray...They can get bad there late evening...
