I've been fishing along the Upper Texas Coast my entire life, primarily along Bolivar Peninsula. In that time, I have watched as storms destroyed both Meacom's and The Dirty Pelican pier. I have also watched them be rebuilt to far less than their former glory. Still, I have fished them both through the numerous owners (not as much as I would like but enough to be able to speak about them). The former Dirty Pelican Pier (which operated under a different name) finally gave up the ghost after Rita blew through. Meacom's Pier went through several names, the last being Harris Pier. I visited a couple of times during the Harris era and it was a fair experience. The pier was under constant repair but at least something was being done.
I have noticed over the past year or so that a lot of work was being done at the pier and I noticed the new name (Rocky's RV Park and Fishing Pier). Still, I drove past and went on to Rollover Pass and the Bolivar Jettys rather than stop in. That was until this weekend. I decided last week, after hearing that Rocky's rented travel trailers, to give it a try. So, I loaded up my 9 year old shark fishing partner and we headed down. I had called to reserve a trailer on Friday and Rocky's wife was extremely nice and told me "no problem." Honestly, I expected to find a trailer that would probably meet the expectations of a couple of "dirty" fisherman but I didn't expect much more. I was in for a surprise. The small trailer we rented for the evening was very clean (even my wife would've felt comfortable). Linens, dishes, toiletries, everything was provided. Even the air conditioner was turned on for us when we arrived. Everything was clean and Rocky and his wife were extremely hospitable. The Pier looks great (still some work to do but it's getting there) and the grounds are impeccable. The small shop met our needs (bait, drinks, snacks, etc.) and, although the fishing was off, my son and I had a great time in an environment that was suitable for a 9 year old (impressionable) boy. Rocky went to the trouble to (without my asking) bring us a bigger light because the small one where we chose to fish didn't give out as much light. And, after a brief trip to the trailer, we returned to the Pier, where Rocky's wife quickly informed us that a shark had been hooked at the end of the pier (because she knew my little boy was on the hunt for a shark). We got down there just in time to see Rocky helping the fisherman pull a 4 to 5 foot shark out of the water for pictures before being released.
Let me say that I have never met Rocky in my life before this weekend. However, I very much appreciate the hospitality he showed to me and my little boy and I truly appreciate a safe, clean environment. I would highly recommend Rocky's to anyone looking to do a little pier fishing along the Bolivar Peninsula. I can't do anything about the fishing but I can promise you that the accomodations will meet your expectations and the atmosphere is appropriate for a family outing. There is a website at www.rockysrvparkandfishingpier.com. All prices, etc. are given on the site. Anyway, if you have read all of this, you really need to take a break and go fishing. Good Luck!

I love fishing on the bolivar peninsula. I was at Rocky's several months, it was pretty much as you described. I enjoyed fishing on the pier, and I like that whole area. To me, Bolivar, Rollover, Gilchrest, are all user friendly for bank fisherman. Much more so than Galveston. Sometimes the fishing is hot, sometimes it is not. I can usually catch a bull red in the surf.
