I was going to Academy and Gander Mountain that morning, bought the last 201 reel from Academy @ $59.88, went over to Gander Mountain and told them of the Academy sale, and I wanted them to price match, long story short, they let me have 1, and said their policy was to match competitors in stock items only.

It would probably make you angry then if I told you I bought 6 of them from Gander Mountain (1-100 & 5-300's) for $53.89 after the %10 discount for filling out their credit card application, so I won't share that information with you.

I also won't tell you that I sold 3 of the 300's on ebay for an average of $173.66 each.

Probably would make you mad that I think that is sorry thing to do. Instead of a fisherman getting one that needs one you make a quick buck off of it--again that will probably make you mad so I wont tell you.

Academy's around here are sold out. Ibought two on ebay from aguy in Plainview. Thought there was someone on here posting about buying several on sale from Plainview. Don't see his post anymore. If it was him, he made a nice profit.

Ya right, the guy right behind me bought all they had left (8 of them) and was making them look for more so if I hadn't of bought them he would have. I made my money back + enough to buy a couple of decent rods to put the one's I was keeping on (I had one decent castaway rod already). I now have three rod and reels I never could have afforded any other way. Besides, the guys who bought the reels on ebay were thrilled that they got them at a price they thought was great, so three fishermen in other parts of the country who needed new reels got them.

When will the new Citica's be out, thus making the old Citica's clearance at Academy?

I heard that they would put the old Citica's on sale, but only for about $90, and not as discounted as the curados were. I can't say that I blame anyone that bought up all the curados at a store. Who is to tell them they cant make money on something. It isnt illegal or unethical, and I would do the same thing. Especially if it gave me a chance to upgrade my current fishing gear.

Illegal--no... but ethical....depends on what your ethics are. Some are more loose with their ethics than others.

Iheard from a secret source that somebody screwed up when the price was set for the Curado's clearance. It was supposed to be $159 for the clearance price.

No, I don't work for Academy. According to the employees at our Academy some guy from San Antonio found out about the sale and called his daughter here in Amarillo and sent her to the store. She was on the phone with him the whole time she was there. He had her have them check the price and when they showed to be on sale he had her buy all they had but the 301's (left hand reels). According to the employees they didn't even know they were on sale when she came in. Instead of crying about someone else beating me to the on sale reels I went to Gander Mountain the next day and they matched the price.
