I have a 1993 silverado that has 125,000 miles on it. I drive it maybe once or twice a month just to pull the boat.(I have a company vehicle that I drive regularly) The brakes are sticking so when you step on the them it tries to throw you into the other lane. I have transmission fluid that drains out when it isn't driven. The door handles are broken so you have to open the widow to shut the door. The color is blue on the sides but a deep Rust color on top. Only one speaker works. The only good thing is the motor still seems to be stong. Should I bite the bullet and get another good used truck, or put some money into this one to get it up to speed????? I am affraid to pull the boat very far the way it is. Any and all suggustions are appreciated!

The brakes sticking sounds like it could be water in the rear, getting it properly lubed should correct it if this is the problem...Transmission leaking could be a fairly inexpensive repair depending on where it's leaking....

I'd fix it depending on the costs of the 2 main issues, the transmission fluid and the brakes....

I had a 1988 Silverado that I sold at about 140,000 miles. That 350 V8 was going strong, but after investing in brakes, a transmission rebuild, and a host of other things, it was time to sell it. The next year it blew a head gasket on the guy who bought it, he kept the truck and dropped in a rebuilt engine.

Time for you to get a newer truck that won't have safety issues or major expenses.

Get a new-used truck.

You'll probably only spend a little more on a newer vehicle vs getting all of the items fixed you mentioned needing attention on your current beater.

For under a $1,000.00 worth of repairs, I'd keep the truck! Seem like a lack of vehicle maintenance, a little TLC will get it good as new.. 125,000k no problem, my 97 is nearing 198,000k and runs as good as the truck besides it and still tow my CC with no problem.

I'm with fool4fishing, my truck is a '94 with 240000 miles on it and still runnin strong. They need a little work here and there, but if you keep it in good running condition it is worth more to keep it than to get rid of it. My family and friends keep givin me [censored] about my old beater, but it still starts every time, pulls the boat and gets average of 17 mpg to boot. It broke down on me for the first time last friday on the way to the lake, I guess the original batery cable only lasts 14 years, 15 bucks at napa and it is up and running again.

Thank You guys for all the opinions an inputs. I went and bought a 2006 GMC crew cab with 5200 miles on it. grin It is practacly new. Hopefully it is what it seems to be if you know what I mean. There is still a very predominant new car smell! How can I go wrong with a truck that little miles? banana
