Humdingers are OK but I hate taking off those hook covers.
I have noticed after a while that they do start to get twisted up in the line. This usually happens in the middle of a boil so i just take it off and put on another one. You will also see that the hook can sometimes get caught on the nose.
I know I am a little partial to the Mice since I fish with Butch but you might want to give those a try too. THey are just as good if not better than the humdinger and a little cheaper. Added bonus is that you don't have to take off the hook protectors.

Thanks Rookie, I am going to have to think they all do spin up. I would also like to note the question had nothing against Leroy the maker of the lure, I just wanted to know if this is standard as I used a few of the ones I ordered. I am going to change over to using them with my baitcaster and not pitch them so hard this should help...Spinning rod was just crazy bad on spinning them up. I did use my baitcaster when I used the little georges too sooo...that may have been why they acted better. I do say support the small business man that is why I did buy from Fin Tribe/ well that and the cool sticker he sent with the order. The hook protectors rock I can reach into the tub I keep them in and only pull out one no clingers!!

hook covers remove easily, grab the end and twist as you pull slips right off!

I LOVE the hook covers. If the baits I have with treble hooks don't have them, I put them on before I sell. Saves my wife and I about a cup full of blood every month!!! And I bet there's a mailman or two out there that appreciates them and doesn't even know it!!!

Don't forget line twist. If you're using spinning gear, you may be using some lighter weight line. I know I have the snagging issue when I put my clients on the spinning gear with 6lb line. I only do that when I get caught in that situation. Otherwise, I have my spinning reels lined with 14lb line and it tones down the twisting a lot.
Just something else to check. Most of the time when I've seen this, it has been the long distance casters. Even on long distance, if you feather that cast at the end, it helps a lot.

I bought both Super Dingers and Humbugs. I like both and yes the dinger hangs up if I throw it sloppy. The reason it does better on longer casts is because it's slowing down before it hits the water-same as thumbing it down. Wind also makes them wind up. I use a casting reel with 30# braid and I also put on a split ring and swivel to eliminate twist on all lures.

I love the hummdingers! If the tail is straight I can cast it for ever!!! I have used it in schooling fish and caught Hybrids!!I have trolled ( not deep) for fun with it and actually caught big whites an a few hybrids! If I don't get a good bite after two trys of my hummdingers, I get a bigger bait or throw or top water and catch all kinds of fun. Fish are just funny sometimes! That's why its fishing not catching!!! HAAHAA

If you don't like all the hooks clip the barb off two of the hooks...But I haven't had to many that eat all the hooks...just a few! I really like the bait and he will do custom colors for you, which is really cool...

I love the humdinger!! But to each there own! But there is good advise about how to use them in here. I have very little trouble with them and I have tried all other lures mentioned here, all good baits!! Maybe I just use the humdingers more, is why I like them and I like being able to order special colors!! But if they are not biting them, I try another lure...and that usally is all that is required. I love to fish and figuring out what they will bite is 1/2 the fun...Thight lines.
Sometimes you run into some "tuff" dudes here with "help", but don't take it to personally as they can be rough around the edges but SOMETIMES they have some good advice too! Tight lines. And manners is a taught trait! ;}
