So thanks to the recent pictures posted under the urban fishng thread I was encouraged to go try leon creek by my house. I generally stay away from there due to the bums and the small puddles that used to be a true creek but now Im glad I risked it.

Here are two of the nicer Rio Grande cichlids

Here are two of the nicer bass I cought. The larger one was cruzing by after one of the rios were cought I literally saw him as I was releasing the rio and I made a horribal cast right on his nose, as if I was shooting from the hip but for once it worked. I guess these fish are hungry.

I got there around 6:00PM and fished till 8:00PM or so. I must have cought a fish atleast every 5 minutes. I started with nymphs around size 14 and ended with cats whiskers and guadalupe greens that were size 6 and 8. Now I know what to start with. I didnt get to touch the good hole though becouse Im waiting till I am concealing more then a knife before I get to close to the Bum's. I might make it back tomorrow. No need to alert the authorities, I made it back safly; this time. cheers

Stay away the fishing is horribal. If I find you there the bums will be the least of your problems. HEHE J/K If you are willing to brave the bums try it out.

i have always wanted to try the creek but i can't shake the wife and kids to go exploring, and there are times that it's not good to have them around. after the flooding earlier this year, earl scott pond was dumping lots of fish into the creeks.

have you ever fished cibilo or salado creek? a buddy and i went fishing on salado creek at 410 and starcrest back in the early 80's and were catching catfish, perch, and one small gator. there used to be another spot right across the street from eisenhaur flea market for salado creek fishing, lots of bass and very large perch.

we went to salado creek. and there was alot of nice fish, but no way to fly fish. it was very over grown and only 3 or 4 feet across. it could be a great spot if you removed a few trees. you should come out with us some time. its always a good time.

I hate it when a great spot is all grown over!
Have you guys tried overlining and roll casting? Just a thought.

it was so over grown i couldnt get near the water with my rod.. well we did get in salado creek and found one or two spots we could cast. but most of it had a canopy over the water. it was only 6'to 7' tall. so me 5'11" with a nine foot rod. i couldnt move it was bad. so i dont think we will be hitting the salado any more. unless you find something better. confused smile

A gator in the salado ha I knew it Ieven told texasdjl. Man I'm glad we stopped wading where we did before the water went to my pits. Yah the water had a little to much brush I was flipping my flys under trees with 2 feet of line out. That was as far as a cast could go.
