Well I finally got up early enough to go fishing today. I caught a few sunfish, and a crappie. The crappie was cool because it was the first one I have ever caught on a fly rod. The sunfish weren't anything grand. I tried to get that record fish I caught last time I went, but if it was there, it wasn't biting. I lost my good fly that I caught it with last time. I did have something hit my ear plug popper, but it did not take it, just hit it once hard, tapped it, then was gone. I was on the lake before sunrise. I know it is a shock. It was good to fish, because it has been a while since I last went, but really not worth the trip. I caught most of the fish on one of my flies that I just made up, no name...it had a decent amount of peacock herl in it, and it almost looked like a streamer. I was sure looking out for those dang water moccasins, they scare me. The more I see these yak pictures posted on here, the more I want one. If I had one this morning, I would of reached some bigger fish probably. I need the kind with the foot pedals though. Maybe one of these days I will get one before I am too old to use it...LOL.
Anyway just wondering if anyone else fished this morn, and if it was a decent trip for them. My trip was just "okay". I stayed out there until right before ten am before giving up and coming home. I even stood in the shallows while I fished, and it was almost like bath water it was so warm. At least I was in a spot where the sun wasn't beating down on me...hehehe.

Did some fishing for white bass and stripers on Livingston. Fortunately, the heat doesn't seem to bother them.

Fly fishing in ponds is pretty slow right now. We are having a drought in our area...no rain since end of May and ponds are way down and fish are kind of sulking.

Come on Fall!!!

I went tubing at my favorite Plano lake this morning and caught a 2 1/2# Bass on a deer hair popper, then two more around a pound on a 4" plastic worm. I switched to my 3-wt with a green weenie on it and caught about 15 nice bream.

I have used a green weenie before, and never got anything to bite it. The area I was fishing though, had many people fishing it, so they must of been a bit cautious of anything that looked like a lure. I know a lady who caught nice trout on them in Missouri though. I should try it again, at another spot. Maybe I did something wrong when I made it....but it looked good to me. The sunfish pecked at it a second, the ran off from it...lol.

I've had the same bad luck fishing a green weenie. Today I found some green bacon in my fridge. Might make sloppy fly for catfish. Hoo Boy!

I was up at crack of sparrow's fart this morning. I figured I'd tie up some green weenies and test them on the water before the heat arrived.

I had slept since watching the green weenie video yesterday. This morning I thought I was tying green MEANIES. Actually I was tying them with yellow chenille, should I call them yellow submarines?

The yellow submarine was a hit. In a little over two hours, I landed two dozen greens, gills, and long ears. I somehow managed to fish the entire time without losing the fly to a tree.

I did notice that all the yellow is missing from the fly's tail. I guess the niblets bit it all off.

This morning I went tubing on a little 3-acre private lake and knew that most of the bass would be small so I put on a foam hopper that JB had sent me, on my 3-wt. I got on the water at 6:15 and left at 11:00. The first 55 (yes, that's right, 55) bass I caught on JB's hopper before it finally came apart - JB I wish that you would make your flies a little more durable . clap Then I switched to one of Dale's black wooly buggers and caught 13 more bass for a total of 68 bass. Most of the bass were 1/2-3/4#, the largest was 1 1/2#. Oh, lest I forget, I also caught 17 large green sunfish also, the largest was 11" and the smallest was 7". It was a slow day of fishing. violin

When I was out there I saw probably 7 or 8 bass jumping out of the water next to the cattails. Some of them launched themselves 2-3' out of the water. I never did see what they were trying to get, but it was fun watching them.

That's some good stuff there Jerry! I suppose the crappie are holding pretty deep this time of year?

Actually, they were in 11 feet of water and holding about 9 feet off of the bottom.
Right by the second fallen tree toward the dam.
When we trolled over them the screen on the fishfinder almost went black there were so many.
It was COOL. eek2

the carp were on fire yesterday....

probably because they were poking their backs out of the water in 108 heat!

but they ate good enough too... even if you happened to make a lousy cast

Did some test casting of my so-called eight weight SA rod with a DTF 6 line. Cast great with this great huge diving bug
Then I switched over to a marabou damselfly nymph pattern and found that a DTF 6 is no fun at all for bluegill.

No. It got beat up pretty good by pesky bluegills but there were no cats or bass that showed interest. Maybe some morning later.

Kelly, the hopper I used was just one that a guy named JB sent me, one he tied at home. It didn't matter what I used yesterday at that lake, the fish would have hit anything.

Well I wish I knew the name of it anyway. I caught a crappie on a Joe's Hopper the other day.

I was doing pretty good on Thursday evening catching bluegills in a pond in Carrollton when something grabbed my fly and took off. I had to let it go wherever it wanted to go. Fortunately there wasn't anything for it to get hung up on, so I didn't mind letting it swim. 10-15 minutes later, I landed a 7 lb channel cat on my 3 weight.

This is my 1st attempt at posting photos, so this might not work.

Hey John

I drilled down through with my moderators access and saw that you are hosting with Image Shack. Every hosting site has a slightly different way to get to the same result, pastable code to display images.

On Image Shack simply click once on the image you want to share, to highlight/select it, and then lok over on the right for the Actions menu bar. Click on "get code for forums" There will be two choices. The second one says to use in case first fails. I found that the first works OK here (The photo below was my test post from my Image Shack account).

And by the way, that is a fantastic fish, all the more so since it was landed on a three weight! Cats on the fly, what a hoot!
