I am having a new rig special ordered and the dealer is recomending this outboard for my application.
The hull is a 1870 Alweld, tunnel with 2-step sponsoons.
Also it will have aluminum floor and 13hp honda fan motor and stand...thus his recomendation of the hi-thrust outboard?

So, if anyone has any say about this outboard I would love to hear it.

Should work fine *IF* your dealer knows how to set it up correctly. That four stroke needs plenty of vent in the prop, and has to turn it's max rpms, or you'll think it's a complete dog.

I plan on getting the same motor on an Alumacraft 1650 tunnel hull later this fall. I hadn't plan on getting a tach, but may change my mind. What do you mean when you say, "Vent in the prop"?

The main issue with four strokes is their lack of low end torque. The prop vents allow a small amount of exhaust gas to vent on the blades during (only during) takeoff, which helps spin it up and create more power faster. Thus..faster holeshot.

My favorite tunnel prop for your type is the powertech flats four blade with 3/8" vent holes. Very durable, and can run extremely high in the tunnel (best with a compression plate)

You'll typically run at least 2 inches less pitch that normal because of the radical cup.

OK, definetly sounds like you know what you are taliking about
but I must ask...Are you aware the T60 is a high thrust motor
spinning a 13" dia prop and lowered gearing with a lower unit comparible to the specs
of a Yamaha 115 2-stroke. (normal outboards of this displacement spin a 10-11" prop)

40hp 2-stroke vs 60hp 4-stroke is acedemic. Give me the 4 stroke any day.

What I am really asking is this.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with this small, specialized, Yamaha T60 4-Stroke outboard engine
