Anyone have a clue what kind of fish this is? I caught it off the 91st street pier in Galveston.
Thanks
Kevin

It looks like a little Bluefish. They start coming into the surf this time of year. Pretty good eating if you fry em up. They don't get as big here in the surf as they do do on the East Coast of the Atlantic or offshore in the Gulf. They do put up a nice fight on the light tackle. Oh, by the way, watch the TEETH (look like a piranha). They are ferocious predators and they will bite your live bait or plastics in half or to pieces.

The other option on the ID could be a blue runner/hardtail jack. Great bait for offshore fish.

I would say blue runner (even though it does look like a bluefish). If it was a blue fish, your finger would be jacked up from the razor small teeth they have.

That is the only reason I say its NOT a bluefish

That would be blue fish aka SNAPPER ... I love to fish for blue fish pound for pound one of the best fighting fish ever. They will test out your tackle.I will fish for them in NJ a few times a year

You better watch your fingers if you plan on catching anything bigger

Young Bluefish. Blue Runner is in the Jack family and would have a forked tail.
