I am looking for a bait-caster and I know what brand I want but I don`t know what model. I know I want an Abu.

So if you could get a Rod, Reel, and Line what would you get?

I Need Help... Before I buy another Spin Caster

If you're set on getting an Abu baitcaster, then Revo would be the way to go. If budget is an issue, then Abu makes several round models that have been good for me for many years.

Rod and line would of course depend on what type of fishing you plan to do.

For saltwater you'll want to stick to either the Revo Inshore(Low Profile) or the Record(round reel). You can't go wrong with either one IMO.

I've fished my Revo S in saltwater with no problems. Just make sure to rinse with freshwater and perform basic maintenance after each trip (as you should with any reel) and you should be fine.

If budget allows the Revo Inshore is a VERY nice reel. I like mine.

I have an Ambassador 4600 and also a 6500---been really good reals for me. Never had them in salt water but I would not hesitate to use them long as I had fresh water to rinse in. I'm partial to round bait casters.

if you catfish get a 6500c3 ambassaduer works great but mine is an older ambassaduer reel and has more knobs then the ones now a days. make sure its made in Sweden before you buy one because the ones that are made in china aren't as good.

if you are just Bay fishing get a 5000C3 or 5500C3 i have a 5000C3 and a 6500C3. both are great but the 5500 and 5000 can handle most anything in the Bay. for offshore atleast a 6500.

I have three different 6500. You can pick the one you want. I also have a rod for you also. I have braid or mono line you pick.
I'll see you in Nov.

since were on the subject, I want to give props to Walmart. I bought a Revo S from them 2 years ago, the level wind broke and thegears were grinding so I took it back and they exchanged it for a brand new one.

I picked up both a Revo S and a Revo STX for use in the salt before the Revo Inshore was announced. Both are still running just as good as the day I purchased them.

While on the subject of Revo Inshore, you might also consider the Revo Toro if budget isn't as much a concern.

From TackleTour's preview:
"The Toro is designed to offer the line capacity of a round reel in a low profile form factor. The Revo Inshore holds 175 yards of 12 pound test monofilament while the new Toro has a larger capacity of 200 yards of 14 pound for the Model 50 and 250 yards of 14 pound test for Model 60.

Similar to the Revo Inshore the Revo Toro is also made of the hardy X-Craftic aluminum alloy which is proven to be a more durable, lighter than standard aluminum, and has better corrosion resistance. Again, like the Inshore the Revo Toro uses 7 of Abu Garcia's High Performance Corrosion Resistant (HPCR) bearings and Duragear brass gears to power the reel. Following the popular Revo STX which uses the Carbon Matrix Drag System, the Toro incorporates the same set up and you can expect to get a maximum drag pressure of 24 pounds!

Four models are available to suit the need of anglers. Model 50 and 60 comes in a lower speed ratio of 5.4:1, great for cranking power when needed. The 50-HS and 60-HS are the high speed reels having a 6.4:1 gear ratio. MSRP for the reels are $269.99 for the 50 and $279.99 for the 60 size."

I wish Abu (and Pure Fishing) would stop resurrecting old names on new, totally different equipment, I know of at least three totally different reels that used the name "Black Max" and now a new "Toro" which was used for the low profile reels a few years ago. Berkely has used "Lightning Rod", Bionix, and Series One for totslly different rods for years. Each of them were the top of the line rods when first used.

I used an Abu 5500C for bay fishing and never had a problem with it. You will be satisfied with any Abu you choose.
