Hey guys, just got back last night and boyt was I whipped! But I am still smiling!
It was a fantastic trip with so much to say that I won't even attempt it all in one sitting. Leave it to say that
Dennis is a wonderful fellow quite in addition to being a top notch guide. He let me in on his Caddo secrets which we are going to work on translating to the fly rod from conventional tackle.
The lake record black bass is 11¾" and weighed in at 0.84 pounds. Which means that this record stands to be broken quite easily. May I suggest getting to Caddo forthwith and getting busy? But he was a hoot to catch because I landed him on a three weight. I hooked him up in some cypress trees out on the big lake. He came out of the trees like an old dog who is being led to the back door. But as soon as he saw that boat he went ballistic! It was all I could do to keep him from wrapping up tight in the lily pads. I am still not sure how I managed. Dennis was the man who saved the day on the back end of the boat.
The bluegill was caught the day before, same rod, same pattern. He went 8.25" and 0.46 pounds. Now that was a brute! Sorry Cliff, looks like you better head back to Caddo, and what a great excuse! All kidding aside I can see why someone would want to fish there all the time. I have never ever seen such a totally beautiful place in my life! I uploaded all my photos here
Flickr Caddo Set There are basically only a very few fish photos, I was too busy catching to take many at all. Dennis will post more, he was the photo taker.
As for food; I've never eaten better food in my life! You know how Mexican places bring out a big basket of chips and salsa? Big Pines Lodge brings out big bowls of home made cole slaw and baskets of home made hushpuppies. And serves the best catfish I've ever had. Uncertain Inn served up ribeye that made me want to slap somebody it was so good.
You know what else? I saw zero, nada, no, none garbage or trash on the lake at all at any time. That hit me the second day. How cool is that?
I learned a lot from the guys I fished with and shared a few things with them as well. I spent a couple of days with some really fine folks.
More later as I decompress and recall more.
