If anyone sees a 2001 Dark Blue Ford F-250 4X4 Lic 78KCH1 please call the police as it is my stolen truck. It was stolen about 4:00pm 7/23/2008 from Channelview Texas and more than likely on its way to Mexico.

7/24
They found my truck, 4 wheeler missing, Aux fuel tank/toolbox missing(1/2 full of diesel, 30 gal),Radio ripped out, 20 ton hydraulic jack and jack stands missing, all tools missing,$50 in change missing, Steering column trashed. Insurance company said they will not cover the ATV under car or homeowners.I will meet with the adjuster tomorrow(soonest he could schedule) to see what they are goiing to pay. This will cost me at least $4000 for deductable and a new ATV. No telling how much more.

That's where I work...Hope Skeeter finds his truck. My son's truck was stolen a couple of years ago and the cops found it within an hour of the time it was reported stolen....They found it 11 miles from where it was taken.....stripped.

I take it no separate insurance policy on the ATV? I would still think they would at least have some sort of partial coverage on it if it was in the truck. The only ones that make out on car thefts are the thieves and the repair places. I couldn't believe it until I saw it with my own eyes, but here in Houston there are several repair places that specialize in repair of theft recoveries.

Skeeter, I had my truck stolen a couple of years ago in Houston, same kind of truck as yours, they found it a couple of days later, basically in the same kind of shape.

It was completely stripped down, the only thing they didnt take was the 5th wheel hitch. I fought with the insurance company for 45 days over what they were going to pay me. They came and looked at the truck, and had a check written out to me and said here this what we will pay, I tore the check up infront of him and said we will wait till a body shop takes a look at it.

Come to find out they, jacked up the transmission and it needed to be rebuilt, they literally burned all the rubber off the back two tires, (bfgoodrich all-terrains), drove it around in 4WD and all that.

I kept on them about the amount and finally got it all settled, I ended up loosing about $800 total after it was all said and done, but if I would have taken that check I would have been out a lot more then that.

Be patient, make a list of everything you can remeber that was in the truck, and I mean EVERYTHING...

Rick

If you don't like what they offer, I believe you have the right to hire your own independent adjustor to give you a quote. Of course, the independent adjustor's quote ends up just being a negotiating tool for you to help settle your claim. I had a major run in with my carrier a few years back following a total loss on one of our vehicles. I kept asking them if I had any other remedies. They kept telling me no. But in the end they basically had to give me what I wanted because they had lied to me and told me I had no other options but to take what they were offering. Good Luck!!!

Insurance companies are wierd about things like that. I worked with a guy who caught his house on fire trying to sweat on a pipe. He said the insurance company fought with him for 6 months over $6000.

During this extra 6 months they were paying for him to stay at Marriot, paying for the kennel for his dogs, and all of his meals. They easily spent more than $6000 fighting over the amount, which they eventually paid.

He did say that he racked up so many points with Marriot that he will never have to pay for a hotel room again.
