If you receive an email advising you to download this - DON'T - immediately delete the email.

If you go to a website advising you to download this - DON'T

This is a new virus that just popped up and the "real" anti-virus protection companies don't have a fix just yet.

I am working on a client's PC right now to remove it and it's not a walk in the park.

Rule of thumb: Don't ever download anything that you are not 100% sure of.

That one self loaded on my computer from a web site last week. There is good information for manual removal on the internet though. the file names have changed though but, it's still easy to spot.

My son visited a site Monday night that loaded it on our computer. This thing pops up like a security warning. Never, ever click on it. Close it via the "x" in the upper right corner.
It even has a shield that looks similar to the Windows Defender shield logo.

It redirects everything on your computer to a site selling anti-virus software. Who in the *_(*(* blazes of he%% would buy their antivirus software when they infected your computer. Surely there is someway to permanently ban them from the internet.

Does this mean I did not win 250,000 pounds in the UK lottery?

Texasblonde, That must be the one that tried to load on mine from some site the other night. I think I had made a typing error of one letter in the address box and all of a sudden it started scanning for threats, using a windows security threat dialog box, as I recall. I unplugged my ethernet cable and shut down firefox in the running processes list thru ctrl alt del. Later I looked at my history and I had NOT made any typing errors in the browser address line.

If that's it, it's a sneaky little sucker.
I was going to a harmless site, too, like the Dallas Cowboy page or something that I visit often.

Mine didn't even do that. I was reading a blog and noticed the that my desktop color changed in hue (brighter blue). I closed down IE and there was a warning of virus detected on my computer. It went down hill from there. Locked up my desk top and kept getting pop ups saying I had 2695 virus' on the computer.

One day, maybe....I'll be able to get my hands around the scrawny little neck of one of those guys that puts this stuff out there, if I'm lucky. What a glorious day it will be !

Yep, that's what it does and it fools you into thinking it's a Microsoft product by using their official shield logo.

Avast can get rid of it - but it's a lengthy process.

I got rid of it manually in about 30-45 minutes and then locked down their URL. Hope that keeps them off my stuff. What a pain in the arse. bang

One of my son's friends went to a website a week or so ago and got this stupid virus. It just kept building on itself, modified the registery, stopped the allowance of the usage of task manager. I tried EVERYTHING but, Avast to rid the computer of it. I decided to just rebuild it instead to make SURE it was completely gone.

Of course, my linux box is fine. smile

Yall need to quit looking at porn. I know it's hard, but it'll save your computer from getting viruses... On the other hand, if yall do quit looking at porn, then that may increase your chances of catching a virus....

Worked on a friends box that had task manager disabled recently. AVG didn't find anything after a full scan. Makes me wonder if he still might have something.

If I went to porn sites, I'd admit it......no problem. That's what freaked me out with this last episode. I was going to a normal site, like TFF...( Ok...bad example)...or the cowboys site.

Uhm.......I would recommend against doing that. With some of these bugs, when you try to "x" out of the window, you actually end up infecting your system.

It's best to do a Ctl-Alt-Del and then kill the window in Task Manager. Usually, it will be an Internet Explorer process.
