Heya nowimpyfish,
I enjoyed visiting with you on the water. We wound up with only six keepers for the 12 hours we spent on the water. Give me a call and I will let you know everything we tried.

My buddy and I decided to try our luck at Choke on Sunday, thought I'd post our report. Launched the boat and hit the water about 6 a.m. Couldn't really get a consistent frog bite going, my buddy caught a small one on a scum frog, I had a couple swipe at my ribbit, but couldn't hook up. We tried fishing really shallow with frogs (2-4 foot), tried fishing deep with deep running cranks and T-rigs (18-30 foot), and of course in-between with chatterbaits, T-rigs, cranks, frogs, and swim baits. We finally found a decent pattern about 10 a.m. fishing areas that had a very defined grass line. We'd throw T-rigged swimming senkos and wacky rigged 5" senkos right on the edge of the grass line and work them slowly back towards us. I'd guess we caught most of our fish in about 8-12 foot of water, mainly right up against the edge of the grass line. We didn't have as much luck fishing the grass were there wasn't that defined line. We ended up with 10 fish total (8 keepers), but nothing over 3 lbs. We probably caught 7 of the 10 between 10 a.m. and noon. We didn't have too many problems with wind...breezy at times, dead still at others. By lunch time, it was too hot, and we took off. We tried 5 or 6 different areas, but definitely found the grass line pattern to work. All in all, it was a good day...certainly beats working. Hope this report helps. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions not addressed.

Just wanted to give an up-date. I stayed on the deep grass lines like Dorf said and had some fun today. Started a 6:20 and left at 2:00 . I caught several 14" to 15" ,two were over 3 lbs lost one 4 and landed a 9.20. Thanks for the info and I will talk to you at the next club meeting.

I had a good day on Choke this past Sunday (7-27-08), went up river to "Bo Derick" and caught them shallow, all on finesse and "shaky" heads. Had over 20 fish, best five around 18#.

He is refering to a creek that is about 5 miles past the 99 bridge in the river. It got that name from all the ten pounders caught in it. I have not heard of any that size in the last few years but when the lake was full she "10-- Bo Derick!" was great!

Last up-date. Just fished my club tour. Only weighed in 9 fish for two days but it was enough to win 1st. with 27.58. Fish still holding on the grass edge in 8' to 12' of water. We used Tiki Bamboo Sticks and Spro frogs. Had to dead stick the worms [ thanks Ngarm] and let the frog just sit there & sit & sit. It was fun!! One of our guys [ waytomanyhobbies ] had a great fish,10.92, way to go James!! He also placed 3rd. with 27.30.

I had a great time both days. The more wind, the better time I have. I really put my trolling motor batteries to the test today.
I'll be on the water at Choke next Friday, hopefully in the new boat. I have made a vow to fish new water every trip. I have fished all new water the last few trips and have had better success.
