I have some vacation I need to take before I lose it, so I'm thinking of taking a trip to Texoma sometime soon. But since getting up at 4AM is not too appealing, I am considering camping out somewhere, maybe there by the river, I've seen some camp sites right there at the river, has anyone ever used these before? Would anyone be interested? I'd bring the boat so we could chase the striper around the lake.
What' I'd probably do is leave home around 8PM, get there and setup up camp around 10PM, sleep, and then get up, pack up quickly, and go fish. Would probably just go home around 10AM or so.

Most likely would be either this Wed. or Thurs. I need to check with my wife to make sure.

Gray said he'd camped there before and that were acceptable camping spots.

What time were you planning on hitting the water? I would be interested in that trip.

If you plan on fishing the lake I suggest camping at Eisenhower. They have full facilities and a nice boat ramp. I'll probably be yakin there on Wednesday or Thursday.

Sure thing. But I just thought of something, park access. If you are in there I don't think I'd be able to get in until 6:00 AM. Hmmm, let me look at park website

PM me your phone number and we'll talk.
So far, Thursday seems the most favorable weather wise.

Not sure yet about camping. Either drive the night before, or drive the night before... oh, the brutality of it!

Thanks Jerry. If the park gates are open then I could pop up there way early if that would work out.

Hey guys. You can camp at the state park for $20, with water and electric. Corps of Engineers has a campground immediately below the dam, at the Texas Dam Site. Those sites have water and electric, as well. And I would swear that they went for $10. Corp of Engineers Campground does not have showers, only toilets. Regardless, they are both good choices. If you go to Texas Dam Site, be sure to take your own firewood. State Park sells it for $.50 a stick, at the gate. Regardless, have fun and be sure to let us know how you do.

Gray,
WHat happens at the Damsite or the StatePark if you show up real late? I may only be able to get there like 9:30PM or so.

The state park is a first come first serve kind of deal. So, if you arrive late at night, you find an empty site and then go fill out one of the self serve payment folders at the gate. Or at least that is the way it worked a couple of years ago.

Sorry I'm so scatterbrained sometimes.. I meant drive the night before or get up at 3:45AM and leave at 4AM from my house. THat would pretty much mean NO SLEEP for me.

Christian,

Might want to call or email and see what the current situation is. That is a long ways to drive and be shut out.

the way I figure it, you got two choices:

1) drive up, arrive late, set up camp after dark, sleep like [censored] because it's summer in Texas and too hot to sleep, plus you're in a strange place on a strange bed, or

2) wake up at 3 am. sleep like [censored] because you're excited and/or worried you will oversleep your alarm.

man, it's rough being this close to Texoma, a world class striper fishery, yet SO FAR AWAY!!!!!

That sums it up. It's just far enough away to be a logistical bear!
A little window A/C to plug in at the camp ground would be awesome. Someone will invent something to let you blow window A/C into a tent and will revolutionize camping laugh

Yeah, just like Dave said its pretty tough. The best way to do it is how I did it a month ago.. Just go and camp there for a few days. Eisenhower campsites are pretty nice. Problem this time is that I want to just make a quick trip. Cant really do the full camping thing this week.

I talked to Scott Bridges yesterday. He says the fish are hitting real well....pretty much run and gun fishing though....watch for the blitz and go for it. Otherwise locate fish on fishfinder...use sinking head, etc.....I am going up to pick up my new Ultimate 12 yak Thursday....If you are looking for a new yak...he has a line on a closeout on Nativewatercrafts. Saved me almost 300 bucks on a brand new one...give him a call.

Christian and I were out there today. They were busting up on top just long enough to get everybody to drive over where they were and then dive and disappear. Then pop up a while away, then dive when the boats arrived.

But it was a lovely day and tonight I am going to my serene place to try to catch a bass.

I was there too. Decided not to launch on the lake after watching for a while and not really seeing any blow ups. Went to Eisenhower and fished the bank by the boat ramp. Thank God for greenies...

Glad you got into some Jerry. We were wondering what you were up to this AM.

Greenies indeed! And there are some hefty chunkos in that lake. Paul Kisel, Eisenhower Park super has a photo of a humongous green that his little boy caught. Looks like a radioactive crappie! Big!

I want to explore the small rocks and inlets of Texoma as well as putting in that big water time. After this Saturday I'll know if I am Otter compatible and who knows where things will go from there?
