Need a little help please. Got a 10 year old that wants to catfish. Gotta admit never been my cup of tea but I'm willing to give it a try to get him hooked on fishing. Need some tips on where to go and what to fish with on Ray Hubbard please. Don't want his experience to be a bad one if I can help it.

Thanks
Russell

I like to fish along the I 30 east bridge, on the south side. With a south wind into the bank, you can anchor and let your corks drift right into the rocks. I use either Secret 7 or Danny King punch baits, 3-4 feet under a cork, with a split shot about 6" from the treble. Use a #6 or #4 treble. With DK it will stick good to a bare treble hook. Punch baits are great with a stick, no mess on the hands! Judge where you have a 3 foot depth from the bank and don't let it drift any further in or you will get a rock. Last trip was great early, but they shut down by 9 am. Late day would be good too. Cork fishin is a lot easier for kids, especially if it is a slip cork rig. Carolina rigs on the bottom are good, but expect some hang ups if you try that. Most trips with a cork I don't lose any tackle. Also heard of a sweet spot over by Bass Pro, along the wall of restaurants. These spots are both wind blown shores which seem to attract the kitties looking for an easy meal. Move around if you go more than 20 minutes without a bite. Good luck!
