I have a 3 acre lake/tank on some property I own. It is well stocked with bluegill, bass and channel cats. The bass and catfish are relatively easy to catch. Bluegills are a bit more elusive. They are probably hiding in some unaccessable timber and brush areas.

On her last visit my 92 year old mother caught 2 catfish over 6 lbs. Now, she wants to catch some bluegills, her favorite.

Can anyone give me some suggestions for baiting an area, say just off the dam, so that the blue gill will be there for her? I need to put her in a chair and let her stay in one spot. She will be using earth worms for bait. Crickets are not available around here.

Thanks for the help.

Get a couple of cans of dog food, punch a few openings in each end, throw them out in the water.

Try getting some trout magnets under a bobber, jig it a little, as you slowly reel the line...or to really get sunfish you can get crickets, and use them under a very small bobber. Sunfish LOVE crickets.

This is almost 100% reliable...set up an artificial feeder, or if you don't have access to one, start a hand feeding program. Feed high protein fish pellets every day in low light, morning and evening. After a few weeks, bring her out, set her up beside the feeder one morning or evening, and she will likely catch more BG than she ever has before.

To make the odds even better, the day or two before bringing her out shut off the feeder or stop feeding.

I do this for my grandkids on occasion and they really get hooked on fishing....the problem, however is that it spoils them on regular fishing.
