I am replacing the shroud on my triton and I cant seem to get the steering wheel off. It won't budge when I pull on it and from what I can tell it is a tapered shaft with a key. Steering wheel puller wont work on this application. Anyone have any ideas?

this is going to sound like a joke, but it's not.

put the nut back on just covering the end of the shaft. this is to protect the shaft.

sit at the helm and put upward pressure on the wheel with your knees. (or get a helper to pull up on the wheel)

give the shaft a good sharp rap with a hammer.

that'll free it up.

Yea I finally got it off. I kept thinking man there must be some special tool to get this thing off, but pulling and rocking it worked. Lol.....sometimes the easy stuff makes me bang my head upside the wall..lol
