Have they started rebuilding the pier yet? Had a lot of luck last year on there.

Thanks Bill. We caught over 300 trout (sand and specs) in two nights off the pier last year. Going back in August and hoping that it is back by then.

As you ride the ferry over to Port A, it is on the right hand side. Neat place to take the kids. The dolphins swim thru the pier.

Was just wondering if the pier is still there at all? And if so, can you still fish off of it? Headed down there Friday and staying till Monday. If anyone has any other good locations to catch some reds or specs that would like to share, other than the jetties and Horace Caldwell Pier, would be greatly appreciated. Only get to go down once a year and would like to catch some fish to eat...

Thanx....

You cannot fish off the pier, the first 15-20 feet of the pier is gone. I would try down from CP pier with fresh dead shrimp for whiting. Reds and trout will be hard to come by without a boat and knowledge of where they are.

Received an e-mail response from the Port A Chamber of Commerce today. They talked to the city about the pier. The city is going to re-build it, but it will not be this summer. There is no time table set yet.

Large wake from a tanker knocked it down.

Going back down in a month. Any other piers worth trying in the channel.

Hoping to take trip to SPI, this weekend...And if I don't ride with other friends going, I'll take my car and stay longer and camp out at (((Goose Island State Park))) and try their lighted pier at night...Been 3 or more years, since I've been there...But did real good on keeper trout at night, split-shot-weighted or free-lined Pin-perch just barely outside of lights...Caught my own Pin-perch or Piggy-Perch with cast-net at boat ramp and the grassy flat areas close to the shoreline...Also plenty of schoolies on small crappie jigs and glow-in-the-dark 2" sassy shads or curly-tail grubs...The Copano bay Causeway pier( forgot the actual name) can produce specks at night also this time of year...And is just 5 or 10 minutes away, if remember correct.

Will post report, if and when I go...Just hoping the weather and water-conditions will hold stable...

Try a sabiki rig for catching your bait. They work great under the lights.

Looking forward to that report. It's been at least 25 years since I've fished either one of those piers.
