Whats the difference between a sex offender having to register and someone that has been convicted of a DWI having to have a license plate that starts with a "W"???

I have no problem with responsible drinking and a designated driver or cab for those times you go over the edge. I do have an issue with consciously driving when you've had too many. I drink in moderation. At every bar I see some who don't know that word.

On the drunk driver and concentration camp analogy I'm outta this thread. I just don't get that reach. It's a friggin mark on your car so the cops can tell if you belong in a bar you're not supposed to be in. Nothing more and nothing less. If you earn it you then get it. I know how one can go about not earning one. Send a self addressed stamped envelope along with $100 to me and I tell you how.

I guess everyone’s opposed to the ignition interlock too, ankle bracelet home monitoring…and anything that might shame the offender.

They are far too lenient on repeat DUI offenders. That said, I also think the blood/alcohol level is too low to qualify you for a DUI.

But these guys that have 3, 4, 5...even 10 DUIs that arent locked up really amaze me.

Two beers within an hour gets you a DUI in many areas. I dont know of many grown men that two beers affect that much. Not nearly as much as driving while talking on a cell phone, anyway...

Isnt it funny that we have DUI laws, yet allow bars ( without food) to exist ?

Nope I just think it opens the door to them wanting to use some type of ID to place on just about anything under the sun. It starts with DWI's today and will end up being used on down the road. The less the government is involved in our daily lives the better to me. there are situations where extreme measure like this can work but lets keep it on a case by case basis and not blanket enforcement. I'd feel better making judges and other folks involved in prosecution more responsible when a guy slips through the cracks.

think its weird that many people on here want people to be held responsible for their actions. However if its drunk driving its seems to be different. Whiskey plates set a standard for DWI's punishment. Each step has harsher penalties that are written in stone, unlike our system now of too little to late. The whiskey plates are just a part off the punishment. They for one have a public shame factor, and dont under estimate that. Secondly they make people be more responsible, for they are an easier target to pull over. Kinda like if you went out drinking at night and had a broken taillight. It would be very unwise. And yes, they can drive another car, however there are really strict penalties for that also. I personally think its a great step towards making people pay for their decisions. Its not like it stops you from going to the bar, u can still ride with someone. However you cant drive for you have shown your irresponsibility.

As far as "it's better the more government stays out of our life". It is not our governments job to enforce the laws? Is it not their job to help secure our safety? U can't want the government to enforce illegal immigration (which i think most of us one here agree that 1- they suck at and 2- that it should be done) and yet not want the government to enforce laws that would be for the good of our society. The whole government being in our life argument does not work in the case.
