I don't see a lot of mention of Honda outboards. What are the good/bad of the 200/225 series?

great engines if it lasts half as long as their mowers last it'll b a good buy. ive also heard it is the way to go for saltwater. heard from friend that its really tough. i dont have one i live off of a johnson 150 fast strike its very reliable but burns up a ton of gas 4 hours will use 15 gallons maybe hondas r better. but if u want a reliable motor go with jonhson fast strike never had trouble

You don't see much of them on inland lakes. You see a lot of them on the coast. Just make sure you have a servicing dealer near you. That is the only downside to them. They are hard to get serviced. And when you do need a part, EXPENSIVE!

The power per weight ratio on a honda 4 stroke to a 2 stroke was bad. The Honda 225 weighed 140Lbs more than a Johnson 225 2 stroke. On most applications, the boat can't actually hold that much more weight. If it is a pontoon or offshore boat where weight and hole shot is not a factor. It makes for some really good sense to go with the 4 stroke. I have a friend that is running over 2000 hours on a pair of Honda 225 4 strokes, in saltwater and has had no major problems. Service is a big issue on all 4 strokes right now because (one) they haven't been out long enough for us to see any inherant problems, (two) Compaired to 2 strokes we just don't see that many in for any thing other than rutain maintenance.

I've got a 130 hp on our pontoon. It runs very smoothly and you can't hardly hear it run. It has been very dependable and other then an annual oil/filter/fuel filter change I've had no repair cost in three years. But,I wouldn't run one on my Bullet I'll tell you that!!! Too much weight, but for a big boat it's great.
