July sultry summer night, a brilliantly lit full moon in all its splendor, a fully rigged ultralight rod and reel, a pocket full of TriColor MicroTube jigs, with 1/32nd oz UNPAINTED jig heads, AND BROTHER WAS IT EVER ON!!!!!!!!!!1

I literally lost count of the bluegills caught between 9:30 PM and 11:00 PM, but the number of braggin sized gills, between 9 and 11 inches each, was AT LEAST 20!! I didn't catch a "keeper" 8.5 inch female bluegill, bursting at the seams with eggs, until i had been there at least 10 minutes and had gotten the two dink males out of the way first, but then from her on, it was Katy Bar the Door!!! Wowzers, they went flat out nuts!!

One awesome night of ultralight nirvana!!!!!!!!!!!

And the topping on this delightful cake turned out to be a 2 lb Tilapia! Beautiful fish, and i am sure, quite tasty as well!

Not one black bass tonight, which for me the last couple of trips, was the trip saver, but no matter, the 'gills and green sunfish were in full effect!!

Sounds like fun.

I got to a stopping point around 4:30 yesterday but didn't have the patience to wait for night time fishing. Perhaps I'll do better tonight.

Don't tube jigs get "painted" when you slip them inside the tube?

Were you fishing under lights?
I have fished many times for catfish using night crawlers and never got bothered by gills. In the same spot with the same bait in daylight get fed up with the little bait stealers.

Was there a full moon? or artificial light of some sort?

Grashpr9: The jig HEAD NEVER gets painted because it DOES NOT go inside the tube!

Grandpa: NO LIGHTS! Only the light of the full moon!

I've lately been using the jigs which are fully covered by the tube. I feel bad about inserting the hook down thru the tube. Seems like I ought to be inserting the head of the jig up the tube instead.

My full moon bream didn't want to play Friday night. I caught a nice 7" greenie about 8:20. After that it was nothing but dinks.

Unfortunately two of my hot spots were covered with flotsam. It is hard to fish when you can't see your jig and have to clean it off after each cast.
