i take about an inch off each one. I prefer the scumfrog over these. I just cant get used to them. they dont seem natural-looking to me (or at least not as much as the scum frog).

i agree with ronnie, the scums are way better and half the price. but you should buy at least 2 anyway cause the bass will destroy it.

yes the scum frogs are cheap! but once they tear out the skirt, you can put a wieght and superglue it in there.. T. Horton showed this trick on a cable show. he uses the wieghted-butt frog in heavy hydrilla mats to move more water...so the bass can key in on the bait better.

I have never trimed the legs but I have had bass rip half of one off and after that the frog would "walk the dog" or zig zag back to me. You have to hold the rod tip high though.

Spro is the best frog on the market imo. I have used all of them and it has the best hookup ratio and hold up the best of anything i have thrown. I am a tournament fisherman and hookup ratio is most important for me. We start throwing them here around mid march in flooded willows and trees. About may we throw it in peppergrass and flooded haygrass or johnson grass. By early june the pads are thick enough to fish and it is not until about mid october that we put them down.

Saw a show were Dean cut about an inch off 1 side, leaving the other at full length. Said that helped it walk better. He also took a magic marker and put little squiggly lines on the belly.

im gonna have to give the scum frog or the spro a try...been using the r2s bully wha and for some reason could not stay hooked up recently...i waited to feel pressure and set the hook but every fish would pull off....thats annoying with 3 and 4 lb fish during a tourny...

I know this was about trimming the legs and yes I have tried this and it does seem to help both on the Spro and the R2S frogs. But if you want to try a frog that works like the ole Jitterbug. And you can pop it too. Try the Deps Basirisky Frog.

I love the spro frog, in fact only frog I feel I can hook up with. I don't trim the legs but reading all these I may have to try it.

How are y'all keeping water from filling up the Spro frog? Seems like it is good for a few casts, then you have to squeeze them to get water out.

I usually take about an inch of One side, this will cause it to walk a wider path.

Nathyn H,
I think the R2S version is a better bait. It's softer, the detail is as good or better, and the legs are finer. Because it is softer, the hook up ratio is slightly better than on the Spro. The thing to do is take a Spro and massage it for about five minutes with your hands. This will soften it up, and it will perform much better during hook up. Also, the reason any of these frogs sink is because either a hole has been puched in them from the hooks allowing air to escape, or the area around the line tie has torn. You can use swim bait glue to kind of fix them, but these things do degrade over time.

it seems like some of the spro frogs get water in them and some dont.

i like the r2s frog but it wasnt hookin up for me on t-bend...if your chunking any of those type frogs in the nastiest stuff possible then they will eventually take on some water...i like how the nose of the r2s is wired tight to the hook...its my fav frog so far...

Trim them uneven, about a half inch difference.
