Fished Bethany Lakes' Waterfall Pool this morning. Caught small Sunfish and Bluegill using a Bead Head Natural Rabbit Fur Midge. Did chance into a 14" Bass. Caught a small fingerling-sized Sunfish; Bass struck the Sunfish and was hooked on the fly. Also, was joined by a Water Snake that decided to swim the pool. Pictures posted in the link below.

I just bought a fly rod/reel and have fishrd the ponds in Colleyvlle. Lots and lots of strikes - sunfish/bluegill, but few brought in. Seems like they spit the fly out before I can set the hook. Is that usual for sunfish or is my timing off?? I 've got good visual sighing of the fish so I can figure out when they're ready to strike -just that I am missing them.

I suffer from the same issue. Bluegill strikes and I miss them. Would say it is usual.

FYI - Fished Lake Lavon's Brockdale Park this morning. Trolled with jigs off the point; caught zero. Decided to switch to a community lake; fished the creek by Towne Lake in Mckinney. Caught small Bluegill using a Bead Head Natural Dubbing Midge near the bridge that crosses the creek. Pictures posted in the link below.

Fished Bethany Lakes this morning. Caught Bluegill on a Bead Head Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Nymph using flyfishing gear. Tried for Bass on a Black Nose Dace and a Black Zonker. No luck. Pictures posted in the link below.

Fished Celebration Park's East Pond for a quick trip this evening. Fished with Bread and landed a 14" Catfish. Others were there, just could not set the hook in time. Picture posted in the link below.

Returned to fish Celebration Park's East Pond for another chance at the Catfish this evening. Fished with Bread and landed several ranging between 2-lbs to 6-lbs with a mix of smaller Catfish and Panfish for good measure. Pictures posted in the link below.

Back again to Celebration Park's East Pond for more Catfish fun! Same method - Bread fished with no weight; landed several with the largest going 2-lbs. Not as big as the other day. Still a lot of fun on light tackle. Pictures posted in the link below.

#4 Baitholder Hook with the bread molded around the hook. No weight; freelined close to shore. A lot of missed strikes and rebaiting but seems to be consistent at Celebration.

Returned to Celebration Park's East Pond to see if the Catfish would be active in the heat of the day. Caught one that went 15" else little Bullheads and Bluegill. Used Bread for bait again, but did see others taking them on Catfish Stink Bait. Pictures posted in the link below.

Tried Celebration Park's East Pond this morning to test a homemade Dough Bait. Caught several Catfish that went 15" else more Bullheads and Bluegill. Although messy, Dought Bait stayed on the hook better than the Bread. Pictures posted in the link below.

Another go at Celebration Park's East Pond this evening to test a variation of a homemade Dough Bait. Boiling the Dough Bait hardened the outer layer, making it easier to keep on the hook. Caught one Catfish that went 14" else Bullheads, Bluegill, and Sunfish. Pictures posted in the link below.

Thanks for the great posts. I have been reading http://cityofallenfishing.blogspot.com/ and planning a few little trips.

Question: do you catch and release, or do you ever take some home to the table? I was currious as to the flavor of the catfish. I know that it usually depends upon the water they live in, what they eat, etc. I have had some that were great, and some that I would have prefered to eat the bait.

Boanerges1, appreciate the thanks.

For the community lakes have been catching and releasing except during the annual trout stockings.

Have been keeping White Bass and Stripers when I hit Lake Lavon or Denison Dam.

Good luck!

Fshng84,
Just wanted to echo the above comment; thanks for your information and detailed reports. Question; are the 3 ponds between Stacey and Exchange, off of Angelfire, ponds that you fish? I have had my kids there frequently, with moderate results on small panfish and some decent catfish.
Thanks Again!

Quick trip this afternoon to Bethany Creek Pond's feeder creek/canal. Fished near the bridge that crosses the canal. Caught several Sunfish and a small fingerling Bass on a Black Nosed Dace. Pictures posted in the link below.

Checked out Celebration Park again, but this time fished the North Pond. Used Bread and caught a 2.5lbs Catfish that went 20". Else, a lot of small Bluegill and Sunfish that were ready to strike at anything. Pictures posted in the link below.

Looks like the Catfish are not limited to the East Pond at Celebration.

Fished Celebration Park's North Pond for a go at the Catfish again. Despite the heat caught several with the largest going 20". Used Dough Bait and light spinfishing gear. Pictures posted in the link below.

Fished the Pond behind Davis Library in Plano this morning. Some short strikes from Bluegill but no hook ups using a Black Nosed Dace, went to the feeder creek by the bridge and noticed small fish in the shallows. Tied on a small Midge pattern and was able to hook two fingerling Tilapia. Went back to Allen and fished Bethany Ridge Pond's feeder creek. Caught Bluegill/Sunfish and one small Bass on various fishing flies. Pictures posted in the link below.

Fished Bethany Lakes' Main Pond this afternoon for Catfish using both Bread and homemade Dough Bait. Good outing with success on both baits; however, liked the Dough Bait over Bread because it stayed on the hook better. Caught several Catfish ranging from 15" to 24" in size. Largest weighed in at about 5 lbs. Not bad for a quick trip to a community lake. Pictures posted in the link below (tape measure is 19" long).

Fished Bethany Lakes this afternoon to capture video of the Catfish fishing in the Main Pond. Action was slower than our last trip. Still had fun today with one Catfish hooked but lost while landing, several bites but no hook-ups, and one 22" Catfish that went 5 lbs. Video posted in the link below.
