ok so i am from austin and i have been reading the forum about people who gar fish and i was wondering if there is any where to do some gar fishing round here i have a 15 ft weldcraft with 25 hp so i can get to a lot of places also what is the technique? what baits work good? also how do i know where to fish for them? any thing would help and be much appreciated.

First off, what species of Gar do you plan to target? Tactics vary from Species to species.

thanks and this happend a couple years ago in another state i bought some gear from there and he offerd me to try it out in their tank so i took him up on it

well they took my stuff away from me (i don't know why) but i iwas using a heavy action ugly stick with a reel i can't rember what type. um and a homemade bait i kept in my truck on a #4 treble hook i think

Yeah...I helped put the gator gar in the tanks at the Ft. Worth Cabela's, btw. I don't know of any other stores that have gator gar at all or even ones that big, which is why I am skeptical...

well it was somewhere up north ( iwas told not to tell which store) but those fish in there are pretty big

Hmmm...well...I will ask some of the aquarists "up north" and see if anybody has heard your story. I will say that in the 2.5 years that I took care of their tanks, I never heard of it happening.

now i regret not checking out the tanks yesterday in buda. I could've gone fishing.
