Night fishing on Lake Fork has been relatively slow, but we are catching some good quality fish. In fact, we got a 10.75# bass last night. She bit a 12" solid black worm in 14 ft of water. We boated her at 2:15AM.
I just got back from vacation in Montana, so last weekend was my first trips of July. I normally catch fish a little deeper in July than I do in June. The grass will still hold some fish, but it isn't always the best pattern for me in July.
Contrary to what the solunar tables say, the fishing tends to be better during the first 2-3 hours of darkness on a night trip when the moon is out at sundown. After midnight, the bite slows down, but your shot at a giant goes up. Once the moon gets small again (the new moon), the bite will sometimes be better at 4:00AM than 10:00PM. We are catching most of our fish on crawworms and big worms - my usual night fishing baits. Black, black/red flake, green pumpkin, black/blue, red shad, and blue fleck are my best colors.
I didn't get a great morning bite yesterday, but I expect that to change soon. The later it gets in the summer, the better the first light bite. See our recent pics at
