Hello. I'm pretty new to fish. I've went fishing a few times and really liked it. I went a few times with my barber, but then he stopped and I had no one to take me. I can finally drive so I'll be able to go fishing by myself now, but I'm a complete newb so I'm not sure what I need.

I have 3 rods. One I bought at Walmart and the other 2 my barber gave me.
They are:

Rod:
Shimano FX C-66MHB2
Length: 6'6"
Line Wt: 10-20 lb
Lure Wt: 1/4-1oz
Power: Medium Heavy
Action: Fast

Reel:
Jarvis Walker Intergra Classic

Rod:
Shakespeare Mantis
Length: 6'
Action: Medium (6-12 lb Line)

Reel:
Shimano TX 2000FA

Rod:
Shakespeare Contender Custom
Length: 7'
Action: Medium (10-25 lb Line)

Reel:
Shakespeare Contender Custom

Other Misc Stuff:

Eagle Claw Hooks (Has a piece of line already attached to it and theres a loop at the end)

Laker 1" Round Floats

Removable Split Shots

and an unknown pack of stuff clips on to things

I will be going to Texas City Dike Fishing Pier. I'm not really sure what fish they have. I'm pretty sure they have Spotted Sea Trout though. I want to catch things like trout.

When I went with my barber it was really late like 10 pm to 3 am, and I was pretty much catching the smaller fish for fun. He set up the line for me and gave me dead shrimp to use as bait.

I would like to use live shrimp as bait. I've already looked online to see the proper way to hook them and I think I can do it.

Okay now for the questions.

Are any of the rods that I have good enough to catch trout?
What else do I need before I can go fishing?
Can someone show me how to set up the line or direct me to a site with pictures?
When is a good time to go fishing?
Is there any advice I should hear before I go?

Sorry for the long post, I'm just really excited.

might want to get heavier weights, you can get the triangular shaped ones, or you can pick up the cylindrical ones that have little claws that stick out to help them stay put in the in the current. Make sure you have some sort of pliers, preferrable needle nose. A towel or gloves because some fish have sharp fins and or barbs.

When's a good time to go fishing you ask?
Whenever the water is wet my friend.

Good luck and let me know how you do

Where does the heavier weight go? Is it at the end of the string?

Well I just got back. Caught only small fish. It was pretty fun. I tried bigger bait in the beginning, but I never got any bites so I just started to fish for small fish for fun. After that I tried fishing with a float, hook, and 2 split shots. I caught nothing.

http://www.torbayfishing.com/rigs/float-fishing.htm

Would this be a good line set up for fishing trout?
There is also only one stop knot so wouldn't it mean that the float could slide between the stop knot and the swivel?
About how much space is between the swivel and stop knot?
How much weight should be attached behind the float?

The site said to start off by giving yourself around 20 inches of line. Then after you attach the swivel you attach another 10-20 inches of line for the hook. That's about 3 to 4 feet of line hanging of your rod. Is it easy to cast with that much line. I've always casted using a pendulum motion since I could never do the overhead one.
