Just courious, thats all. I really enjoy throwing topwaters like others but fall short sometimes having enough confidence in the calcutta line with a 15 - 20 dollar bait.

I use Berkley Big Game 15 lb. for topwaters. Berkley XT is also a good mono.

pound for pound I prefer sufix siege. I have never broke a fish off with suffix. it allows me to throw 10-12 pound line wher I would normaly throw 15 pound line. Only problem is it has a little more stretch then other mono.

I agree with Ronnie that the vicious ultimate copoly is a great line at a even better price. There is some issues with their fluorocarbon but I have zero complaits about the copolymer.

As far as mono goes it's hard to beat the old reliable big game. Good line and very affordable.

Viscious flourocarbon is cheap - about the cheapest flouro I have found. After a few weeks it has TERRIBLE memory. Hard to handle, backlashing. I'm going back to BPS flouro.

i am using thier 12# flouro with great satisfaction too. only one I am liking out of the numerous brands I have tried.

now it does have memory.. but 250 yards for $10... I can change line out on the one or two reels I use it on and still be ahead.

Fluoro is not for top water with its sinking properties. I like McCoy's xTra clear in 10 or 12 lb test in open water. I use Sufix performance braid around heavy grass for frogs.

Viscious lines are the top line for todays anglers. The price for this product is a very good deal in todays economy!
had to edit this too. Maybe time to hit the sack.

I'm surprised Pline CXX isn't more prevalent...especially down here in Texas where cover, weeds, and large bass rule. It isn't the cheapest, but there isn't a stronger or tougher line. Crystal Clear CXX is all I use...it is just stupid strong and abrasion resistant, not to mention has unbelievable clarity. When I spray my line down with reel magic...I can see the bottom of my spool through the line.

I have not used all the other lines that was mentioned previously. I might be cheap and I am very cautious about buying things that are more expensive just because some well paid celebrity says it is the best out there. I have tried some of them and the line that has never let me down and has never gave me any problems is Ande. The Big Game line is a good bang for the buck also. No other line mentioned above can match the record of the Ande line. More world records caught on Ande line than any of the other lines combined.......... period.

Big Game- low stretch, lots of memory
Gamma- some stretch, not too bad on memory
Excalibur- lots of stretch, very easy on the memory.

I beg to differ.

AFAIC, Big Game is at the bottom of my list of lines.

P-Line CX Premium is my favorite, closely followed by McCoy.

Big Game, if you like to wach line coil off your spool like a watch spring.....

Suffix, if you like fishing with a rubber band, but still a pretty good line, and near zero memory. fish

Ditto there, that's the best mono I have ever used. Hard to find though.

Used to be a big Berkley Big Game supporter, but I have bought WAY too many bad spools of there mono to go back.

Hands Down, Suffix Siege rocks! I use 14lb and 17lb with no problems on my topwater rigs. I have xero complaints about this stuff. The Camo color is a little weird, but I use the Low Vis green and for $7.98 for 300 yds it is a good deal. I have even hauled a few tree bass back to the boat! Try it out.

I can't believe we're talking mono and no one has mentioned Maxima. You want the best, buy Maxima. You want the best for the money, I dunno. There is no such thing as "best for the money" IMO, there is ONLY one best! I will tell you I have tried several of the Vicious lines and find them to be right up there with Berkley Vanish, if you know what I mean!

Hands down it's ANDE, holder of over 1,300 IGFA World records. Let's see Stren and Trilene match that. I have used Ande monofilament since the early 90's

Bass-On is a true Nylon monofilament line. I consider it to be the best true monofilament on the market today.

Many lines that are referred to as monofilament lines are really copolymer lines. McCoy makes an excellent copolymer. Mean Green was for a long time the only color of McCoy copolymer line. In the last few years Xtra Clear, and Clear/Blue Florescent have become available as well. There is no difference between the three colors of McCoy copolymer line except that the Mean Green has green dye in it, and the Clear/Blue Florescent has florescent blue dye in it, and the Xtra Clear has no dye in it. In all other aspects all McCoy copolymer lines are exactly the same.

I'm a sucker for trying something new, and I've tried many copolymer lines over the past decade. I keep coming back to P-Line CX-Premium as my favorite copolymer line.

I was a skeptic until earlier this year about Kevin Van Damm's Line and Lure Conditioner, but no more.

Spray KVD's L&L Conditioner on CX-Premium after you've spooled it onto a reel, and the casting performance is just great. CX-Premium has a very high tensile strength. This means that the actual breaking strength when compared with the line diameter is very high, indeed it's the highest of any copolymer that I've used, or know of.

A final note:

Do NOT go by the pound test rating of line in choosing line.
Go by LINE DIAMETER.

McCoy is just dead on typical when it comes to the pound test rating vs. line diameter, as is Original Stren. CX-Premium will run quite a bit smaller.

Another vote for P-Line CX, it's my current favorite. There is another contender though and it's the Gamma co-poly. Strong for the diameter and noticeably limper than CX. I'm using the 6# on my crappie spinners, it tests at 13.5#'s according to Gamma! A little more expensive than the CX but, so far, worth it!

I agree with Notch. If your going to use mono Ande or Big Game is the way to go. Tackletour did the test on their machines on breaking strengths and both were top dogs compared to the rest. I've used trilene XT and hated getting hung up. Felt like I was going to destroy my gear just trying to break it loose. The XL is good too and cheap. Been folks reel in 80lb bluecats on trilene 20lb, can't imagine it not hauling a big bass "PIG" out of the grass and brush with a mouth full of salad into the boat. Braid might might be safer for that though if you're doing a tournament.

I have Cajun line on all my reels! I have 4lb on my spinning gear and it is some stout stuff! I got some P-line in a couple different sizes and didnt like it. It seemed like I could spool up at the house and head out fishin and it would be coiled up already by the time I got there like it had been on my reel for a year! Not worth the money in my opinion

Another fan of the "El Cheapo" Big Game. It's hard to beat at $4.99 a spool. Big Game and Reel Magic no problems in summer or winter.

BIG GAME for the bait casters! Its not a quality line BUT for the price, buy it in a bulk spool 1800 - 3000 yards and you can respool your gear with FRESH line before every tournament!

Im suprised that no one said Trilene XL. I use 14 and 17 pound clear and I love it. Pulled down a big branch one time that was green.

Here's the deal. Mono deteriorates rapidly due to UV and heat. So if you will buy the big spool, 1500yrds. you will have less memory and enough line to respool your reels before each time you hit the water. You cn't beat this bang for buck if you undrstand the principls of physics!

Sufix Siege or Elite are the best nylon monofilaments that I've used.

Big game for price mccoys mean green for strongest hands down. I can't believe someone really likes cajun line I used it once after breaking a good fish off I said o must have a fray then I hell another off it was 15lb I think and the worst line I've ever used next to berkly trans optic and vanish. As for your p- line problem what line was it? If was fluoro coated that's why it was kinking on your spinning gear. I've used p line a lot and its a good line no problems on a baitcaster pulled up a Christmas tree with cinder block and a crankbait with some 10lb.

Again, none of the monos mentioned come close to the offerings from Maxima, IMO. Best mono EVER made.

Berkley XT and Big Game. Used to love Stren Super Tough.

Finally decidede to try Berkley 100% flourocarbon. So far so good and yes wet your line before pulling knot. Trilene knot seems best.
