Hey guys, great site you have here.

I've been coming to Galveston 3-4 times a year for the past 5 years and I still haven't figured out how to fish this place. I've tried the 61st Pier and the Galveston Fishing Pier, and while the Hardhead Catfish have learned to fear my name, I've had very little luck with anything else. I have no boat, and don't really know much of the area other than what's on Seawall, and down there by the San Jacinto Monument.

Where do I need to go? I'd prerer throwing lures, but bait is fine too. I've got my 7 year old with me, so I don't want to do too much hiking/wading. I don't really care what we catch as long as there's some action. Flounder, trout, reds....I just want something other than stinky cats!

I'm here for 2 more days....Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Matt

We're staying at Comfort Suites on Seawall.
I fished GFP on 89th last night and continued to terrorize the hardheads. Caught 2 croaker. Yippee. I drove down to the San Jac memorial today and made 10 or so casts with a bass assassin....Got one hard bump. There's a ton of baitfish down there right now. Then took my family to that Palm Beach deal at Moody Gardens and spent most of the time watching fish jump all over the lagoon out back. What are those, mullet?
Anyway, I'll take all the help I can get!

look, try the bridge on 61st by the boatramp. catch the incoming tide. todat, i would hit it about 3pm till whenever. my best luck has been about 3.45pm till 4.30pm. the bait is moving hard at this time everyday. as you come into gal, go just passed the boatramp over the little bridge and theres a little park called washinton park on your right just over the little bridge. pull in there and drive or walk over to the bridge and throw some arttys. i would use a 3/4oz silver or gold spoon. fish both sides of the bridge. look across the water and if you see some old fart out there fishing on the peir by the channel marker, wave to me, i will be chilling hopefully with a few redfish and maybe a speck or two?? mullet is what you seen. behind MG is also a good area to fish, but its hard to get there without a boat. also at the end of 99th st by the golf course, you can wade long reef. all this area is just down from MG hope this helps you.

You might try the State Park. There's easy access to a bunch of water that you can wade or bank fish from.

If the surf is calm enough (calm enough to stand on the second bar without getting knocked off your feet by a wave) then fish at dawn and dusk. Seven foot rod, spinning or bait casting reel with 10 to 14 pound test line, live shrimp or Gulp shrimp under a popping cork, or half-ounce Johnson Sprite spooon, or any of various soft plastic and hard lures. The water needs to be relatively clear for the lures to be effective. Stand on the second sand bar and fish the troughs in front of you and behind you. Don't forget to bring the floating stringer or do-net with you if you want to keep your catch. Also helps to have pliers for hook removal and some extra terminal tackle with you. And don forget to do the gulf coast shuffle.
