It appears Abu has realized that the magnetic isn't all it's cracked up to be. It is going back to the mechanical brakes on the newer high end models coming out. I have an SC, but I wish it were the cheaper S model. Even so, it's still a decent reel.

I have more SX's than anything but the 6:4 STX is pretty sweet.

I returned my favorite SX for a Premier, which I also returned for a Curado 100D. I should have known better in the first place. Shimano hands down.

The new premier cast light baits just as good as the curado 100d. I like the STX best, but the s and sx are good reels for the money. Everyone knows shimano has a great lineup of reels, there's in no arguement there, but none are as powerful as the revos. The new premier doesn't have the drag that the s, sx, stx, or inshore has but it still has more drag than a curado 100.

Yes, the Revo has the strongest drag on the market, but I haven't lost a single fish because my Curado or Chronarch drag wasn't strong enough. I'm looking forward to the next iteration of the Curado due out in a month or so. I do think we are lucky to have so many great reels to choose from. The Quantum that's coming out this year along with this years and last years Curado/Citca and the Revo offerings make buying a reel tougher and tougher. Go the http://www.tackletour.com and check'em out!!

All the newer reels are pretty good, biggest problem I see at BPS when people bring them back saying they don't work that good, 9 times out of ten the spool is completly full. Most reels preform a lot better with about 3/4 to 7/8 full, but then most of us already know that.. As far as the Revo's go the basic S version has the heavier drag only, the next SX (black) comes in two speeds, and aluminum frame. the STX is silver comes in two speeds has titanium worm gear, and "free spool system", The Premier only has 6 bearings that's were they dropped alot of weight. The S series has 9 bearings, the SX and the STX have 11 bearings. But IF you really want to see HIGH DOLLAR reels check out the reels from JAPAN, We are talking ceramic bearings and technology that makes our stuff look like cane poles and kite string...Cost reflect quality. It's like another world over there they have Shimano reels but they have different model names like a SCION runs around 1500$ or something like that some of the tackle stores near fork sell some of them.

I have had my curado's drag slip on several occasions on hooksets when flipping baits. I bought a revo stx and love it, but it does not cast light baits half as well as my curado 100d. Also, I haven't had drag slip at all (except when I don't check it before fishing) on my revo's. The Revo's and shimanos are great reels, I don't have a "favorite" but I do take technique into consideration when buying a reel. Just my $.02. Reels are all a matter of preference just like 90% of fishing and if you look at all my reels together it looks like a fruit salad because there are so many different kinds, but to each his own. I am very anxious to get my hands on a new curado and check them out, price is a little nicer too!

I own 2 scorpions(1000) and hands down no argument this is the sweetest baitcaster I've ever fished with. I like light, small profile reels as this decreases hand, and overall fatigue when fishing long hot texas days. The scorpion seperates itself from the competition when fishing light baits and fishing in the wind. The advanced braking system make this a phenomenal casting reel.
Based on this thread it seems like The shimano's are better casting reels and the Revo's are better suited for heavy duty stuff since they have the better drag system. I was considering pairing a revo S with a 6'6" M action American Rodsmith(Pink Ladies) rod for a starting set up for my wife who wants to get a baitcaster. However I think a scorpion 1000 would be alot better choice due to the weight and braking system which would greatly benefit someone who's never used a baitcaster. It would also make a very light combo and be ideal for casting the lighter baits she generally throws.
I own one REVO STX and like it but it doesn't compare to my old green CU 100B's which are alot more comfortable to fish and cast better especially in the wind. So I think I will only purchase REVO's for my flipping set-ups and go back to the new curado's once they come out.

I have a SX, SX-HS and a STX-HS that I traded someone for my Premiere and I like the good ole SX the best! The STX is sweet, but I don't feel $50 in difference between them. Will be getting a Winch Soon!

well, after trying out my new Revo Inshore, I gotta say that other than the longer handle which I like, there's not a whole lot of difference in the feel and casting ability of the Inshore vs. a year old Revo S...
In my mind the Revo S is the best $100ish reel ever made...

I have to go with the consensus here. All of them are good. I have 4 different models and I think they are great. If you are looking for the best overall I would say the STX and Premiere are neck and neck. i
If you want a great reel and spend a little less, then I would say the SX. I have 4 of those and they ROCK! You can get them on EBAY stores for $129 plus tax...

I have to agree with you Patrick. My favorite one is the one in my hands at the time. This morning it happened to be a Winch. It may be a S SX or STX tomorrow.
