The drain won't hold the water in. It is one of those that you turn and it drops in place. For a while we could turn it after it dropped and it would hold the water, but now it does not matter what we do.

Anyone have any exprience with these?

If I had my way, I would remove the thing and just use the old time rubber stopper.

If it's dropping all the way when you turn it, it would seem the rubber gasket is damaged...You can replace the whole contraption fairly easily...They make a special tool for it, I can't remember the name it's been 18 years since I last used one (although I have one in my garage)...You just remove it and replace the whole thing with one you like...

There's an adjustment on the back of the plate with the actuator. That may or may not solve your problem, but it's a place to start.

Is it still under warranty? laugh

Go buy a new one, it takes 5 minutes to change out.

If I can just unscrew it then I am going old school with the rubber stopper on a chain.

I will tell my kids it is from the OLD DAYS when mommy and daddy were kids

You may have to break off the threaded pole in the middle if you keep the same drain, but it will work....

I need to just find a thing that will drop right over the whole contraption.

Sort of like the OLD MAN SUNGLASSES that you get at the eye doctor

I had the same problem. Once I was able to get the drain plug unscrewed I was going to remove the whole drain and replace it with a new one. Once the drain plug was removed there is an x in the bottom of the drain with the nut in the middle. I took some pliars and went to twist the old assembly out but broke all of the legs off the x. Now I have a 2" hole that we use a rubber stopper over. The old drain assembly is still stuck in there. So becareful if you try to remove the whole assembly.

That would be why they make a tool specifically for the purpose of removing the drain assembly...I just wish I could remember what it's called...

Look at what Jig said, and then check the rubber seal. TAke some pliers and remove the plug, and look at it. If that doesn't do it, go to home depot and get another top.

I agree, get a $1.98 rubber stopper with a chain and fix it good. Simple is better. thumb

Not that easy.

The stopper has a screw you just back out a little and pull it off the mount (sorta like the way the little screws hold the light globe in place on a ceiling fan). You can't really use a rubber stopper, because the mount sticks up higher than the drain.

I went to 5 places from Lowe's to little Ace Hardware with ZERO luck. Heck 2 guys said "What is this?"

So I am calling a plumbing supply in the morning.

You can buy the rubber ring that goes around that thing...An icepick will take off the gasket and allow you to put on a new one....Lowe's should have one in their plumbing section....

Coach, that is known as a lift-and-turn drain plug. At last count, there's like 10 gazillion of those in use! Buy a new one!
