and MIKE what about all the cars pulling through next to you or pulling up next to you at the pump?

should everyone kill it when they enter the lot and coast up to the pump?

For best engine life, don’t idle, and treat it with respect while not warmed up, and again after it’s fully warmed up as well.

A quote from the following

Wrong! No extra fuel is used to start a diesel. At least not in a Dodge. I think the same with a Ford. The Ford uses a oil driven injector pump or HPOP that will only supply diesel to the engine after you crank it a few turns, enough to build up pressure.

The amount of griping that guy did was not right but if I am not mistaken and I read it somewhere, you must turn your engine off when getting fuel at a pump that sells gas. The only time you can leave it running is if you have a diesel only pump.
Thats the law.

My sincerest apologies. I over estimated the amount of time usually spent refueling a vehicle............by 30 seconds.

Well, I have to say you did better than I probably would have. I don't like people getting up in my stuff. You should of mentioned to him that it runs all day anyway, a few minutes turned off at the pump won't make any difference. One of these days he will pick the wrong guy and he will get his little neck ringed.

Should have told him you were going for the Guinness Book of World Records on how long you could leave a truck running and that you haven’t shut it off in two years.

There has to be a time period where shutting it off makes more sense then letting it idle.

I use to leave my Peterbilt running all night when I was in the sleeper. I understand these days, they don't allow that at some truck stops anymore.

This also reminds me of a time I just finished purchasing 2 30 packs of keystone at HEB for an after-finals party at my fraternity house. while loading them in my truck, a man approached me and said "I bet you have a 4.0 gpa and ranked in the top of your class by what you are about to put into your body" Told him 'you are exactly right so mind your own business' he said "ok just checkin, so the next time I see you, you better tell me that you made the right decision to buy all that harmful toxins today" told him 'i dont have to wait till then to tell you'
